When the government started looking for new subs, they had several to choose from. from memory there was Japan, a Scandanavian country, France and the US all lined up. So we decided to go with diesel technology, probably because Nuclear was a dirty word and ignore nuclear. Now the experts have realized that the advantage of a submarine is that it stays under water, except of course if it is diesel and has to breathe, they want to change their nappies. No doubt it will cost massive amounts of taxpayers money for the priveledge of waging war for the failing USA. Scumbag is long on driving the fear factor up, so that he can be seen as our guardian angel, with an election due in the next 8 months, LNP have sent out special forces into Afghanistan and tied their hands behind their backs, not allowing them to engage until their is proof that the enemy is about to attack them. They have also sent troops into Iraq on a completely false premise as they did in Vietnam. We could do much better without the LNP because they cannot draw a conclusion from the evidence before them. They have to ask the US President what to do. We would be far better off as another state of the USA, rather than paying to hang onto their coat tails. But it would be better for us if we became an outpost of new Zealand.

Comment that there are not many people up here. That is correct and that is why I live here. I would hate to live in a city or anywhere near one. It is the crowding of people that causes all the problems with epidemics and pandemics. I remember travelling on the London underground as a kid and it was so crowded that you could not move, except when the mob moved.

It isn't bread that makes you fat.If it was I wouldn't be 70kg and 1.77m tall. What I make is started in the morning and baked in the evening. 16 rolls and two loaves from 1.5kg of flour, plus starter, plus 1 litre of water, it works well, except in the real cold months, when it goes in the fridge overnight. Only cook it for 30 mins for the rolls and 40 for the loaves at 220 deg C.

If those who refuse to get vaccinated die, so what. At least they are no longer filling up the wards being treated. It is just irresponsible to expect to not have a jab and still be allowed to mingle freely.

If Porter doesn't know who paid him, how can he be expected to do what that person wants. I cannot believe that he doesn't know who he has to bow down to. I may be wrong, but he will definitely find out when his benefactor wants him to know. The whole thing about this AB case was a farce. Porter took the ABC to court for publishing what someone else said. If that is not a way of gagging the press, what is? The real pity is that the ABC backed down and didn't fight the case.

I have been making all the bread we eat for the last ten plus years and have never made a white loaf. Always a major proportion of wholemeal. How do you make yeast?

Why should a water crisis occur in other places. Australias water supply is not up to supplying any more than it is doing now. Our local dam has had no inflow this year. A few years ago they wanted to bring water from the Fitzroy river which feeds Rockhampton. Then they decided to rise the dam and to get the money they got help from the Biloela area, but to get that they had to pump water over into the Dawson catchment to top up their irrigation aquifer. The Dawson runs into the Fitzroy, upstream of Rockhampton. That is what they call perpetual water motiion. Seriously we are facing a shortage of water in most of Australia. Only the tropical North has enough. They built the Ord River dam to catch water and use it for irrigation in North of West Australia. Good move and the ducks loved it when the rice was grown. Hardly anyone lives up there and there is no great irrigation scheme, although it is increasing with the growth of crops such as mangoes. They tried sugar, but it brought disease in from Indonesia and had to stop before it decimated the Eastern Seaboard sugar crop.

What else could you expect from the LNP. There have been a succession of rorts during the current governments time in office and it will continue as long as the electorate lets it go on. They seem to think that it is all OK as long as nobody can prove it is illegal. No moral standing at all.

Today the ABC ran a bit about a New Zealand university running a program to train cows to urinate in a designated area. Supposedly because cow urine and also faeces have high nitrate and ammonia content and it is polluting the waterways. The ABC presenter asked how it could apply to Australia and was told that while it was different we could have the same problems. Now I wonder why in years gone by when i milked cows in England, we spread the manure onto the land to increase its fertility and you could see where cattle had defecated in the paddock by a ring of bright green grass. Urine was not causing that sort of thing. That bright green grass was shunned by the cattle until it had matured. Now of course dairy farmers in NZ are no doubt spreading Nitrogen fertiliser on the land to increase grass production. The cows eat thegrass and maybe there is too much nitrate, but wouldn't the best thing be to reduce the use of artificial fertiliser. The university was training cattle by building a compound and putting the cattle in them and giving them food when they urinated. It seems they quickly learned to pee in the compound to get food. Who said they are stupid. I can just see it working in Australia, where according to the Uni professor we have free range and lot fed cattle. Lot fed are of course up to their hock in a foul smelling mix of manure, urine and waste food, so whatever happens it should not be allowed to get anywhere near a waterway. Free range cattle would no doubt love to walk a few Km to have a pee and then walk back to here they were grazing. Of course if the didn't take that walk I can't see the urine making it to a waterway, before it evaporated. It seems that Australian Unis have dropped their work force drastically and they should be doing this sort of thing to keep their work force busy. Maybe they could come up with a way to make wombats dig drainage tunnels to prevent floods from climate change.

Todays news states that climate change is one of the causes of the great number f refugees and it is going to get worse. From what I have seen the major cause of refugees is petty warlords, or religious nutters causing widespread fear in the countries where refugees come from. Sri Lanka had a lot of people turning up as refugees, Wasn't that caused by one part of the population rebelling against the other? How about Mianmar? Vietnam was probably the first flush of refugees to Australia. I didn't see any climate change causing that. Ho about Afghanistan. Oh sorry we could hardly call George W Bush a petty warlord, although John Howard fits the bill. Africa seems to be in a real crisis of refugees and most of them seem to be fleeing from religious persecution. Have I got it all wrong? Is climate change the real cause of warlordism and US stupidity?

I had X-Plane years ago and with that you could build your own plane. I built the Corby Starlet and it flew very much as the real plane did and landed the same. I didn't have a good yoke and no rudder pedal, so I had to use the left, right arrows to work the rudder. I never managed to take off without running into several things, but i could land and then lose control. Start the flight from overhead somewhere and it was just like the real thing. Sadly my present computer is nowhere near capable of running it. In my opinion X-Plane is the best yet.

My newsagent folded. There is no newsagent in my nearest two towns. I can get a paper at the supermarket. I doubt that he was balckmailed as he would never know who his customers were with over the counter sales.

As someone who knows stuff all about computers, what do we need to do to get a Linux system up and running with our existing Windows clad computer?

When you were young you played sport.o youngsters play sport now, or do they watch someone else play on their square faced baby minder? -
So right Marty. I was deliberately comparing apples with non apples to get your attention. The pundits seem to be trying to get us to follow failed examples of how to treat Covid. The media just jumps from one headline to the other. Nowhere have I seen them mention the very worst places for covid. We have been treated to India as a bad example and also Indonesia, but never a mention of Czechia, or even Belgium.

Why are state governments running the quarantine facilities. That is a federal government responsibility according to our constitution. Of course the feds have declined to do the job and the states have had to take it over, but if the states stuff it up. It is still the responsibility of the feds. What our problem is is that the government keeps doing the wrong thing and we are too stupid to do anything about it. That is speaking collectively. People I talk to seem to not remember things the government has done if it precedes the latest news flash. A large number seem to think that Scumbag is doing a good job and they also believe anything he says about the opposition. I would like to remind them that voting is not compulsory. What is compulsory is to go to the polling station and get your name crossed off the roll. What you do with the voting papers they give you is up to you.

Do you realize that USA has had 2000 deaths per million of population and Australia has had 2500 cases of Covid per million. That must be why the media says USA is doing so well and we ought to follow.

So what has Joe done in the short time that he has been president? What did Donald do? Which of them got the troops out of Afghanistan? Which of them could not see that if Afghanistan and USA with all its allies couldn't beat the Taliban, that Afghanistan alone could also not win. Joe stuffed up in believing that the Afghan government could control the country. He should have foreseen the problems they are having now. If he couldn't then Blind Freddy should be president of the USA.

Go with Macquarie Bank, I do. Yesterday I tried to pay a bill and they have changed the screen that comes up when you log on. It has a big blue flag across the screen saying download the security app. I couldn't get rid of that screen, nor could I do any transaction, because the "Pay" button is missing. A phone call resulted in being told that they will have to alter the back end of my account. Whatever that means. It should all be OK in two business days. Not bad for a bank that has about $150000 of mine and my wifes and pays nearly zero percent on that. Luckily my wife has their shares and they pay well, but you can see why. Haven't had any feed back from them to my question as to why I should not take my money elsewhere.

We have come a long way since the Olympics was for amateur sportsmen and women only. Personally I reckon sport has overtaken religion as the god to be worshipped. Our premier has let a load of NRL players family into Qld, even though NRL players have demonstrated that they will not comply with health regulations. Supposedly they are not taking quarantine places from Queenslanders as they go into hotels paid for by NRL. -
Getting back to Scotty, I reckon I know what he is up to. If a woman says to her woman friends that she is being disadvantage they will Ooh and Aah and console her, if she says it to her man friends they will come up with ways to do away ith the disadvantage. that is a difference between men and women. Now we have Scotty who keeps popping up on TV and in the news with woman like answers to things. He consoles us when we are beset by problems form Covid. He consoles women with agreeing that they are treated badly by men. Typical womans response and that response used by women for so long is one of the reasons that women are sexually harassed. They Ooh and Aah about it but don't go to the police. I know they feel they won't be believed or they will be belittled, but it doesn't help their cause. Now we have a PM who is going down the same road. It really upsets me that nothing is getting done to solve problems such as the exploitation of women and now it is running over into everything. So easy for a politician to say how bad life is, but not do anything about it. Our media don't help, they cannot look at what is going on and report on it. All they do is report on what others say, never give any analysis or even question what is happening.

Have a look at those four countries. Australia produces very little, whereas it used to be a manufacturing country. Britain has gone to the dogs and what was a go ahead country is not much at all. New Zealand is so small and so far away, that its main claim to fame is that it is a good place to go to get away from where you are. It does have a stable and apparently sensible government. Canada has disappeared int the shadow of USA, but its government does appear to be better than ours, but that does not say much. I was booked to sail there as in immigrant in the sixties and am glad I didn't. I expect Britain would open up a big market for agricultural products and that would have to be shared. We would probably have to share the views of its government, which still seems to be the old public school idiots it has nearly always had.

It is not only big business chiefs that lack morals. Just look at our government. They demonstrate lack of morals all the time and not only in interpersonal relationships, such as concerning Brittany Higgins. Just one example. The government wants everyone to take the Astra Zenica shots, but the medical experts say it is not approved for the under sixties. Our PM then suggests that we go to our doctor who will advise us. So far so good, if the doctor thinks it safe he could say so. Then the PM says he will absolve the doctor if the advice given was incorrect. Can you see what I see here. It is an immoral move to get someone to say what they know is not correct.

Gareth. that time is now and mother nature has started the rectification process. She tried it before in 1918, but it was premature, maybe this time it will work. The chances of it working are aided by human stupidity, so which way do we go. It reminds me of when I told someone that we were at the asshole of the world. He asked me which way I as going and I have never used that expression since.

there may well be a war machine that runs the USA, but I don't think it is the military. Military bosses don't really want to fight any war. they are very happy to have vast amounts of equipment and also troops to play around with, but they don't like seeing their troops coming home in a coffin. They spend most of their time training their troops to stay alive. Without the politicians there would be no wars. Looking back I am sure the probem was started by G. W. Bush and his fellow Republican Donald Trump decided to end it. He was the one who set the date of departure and then Sleepy Joe had to make a decision. He could have decided to carry on the war, because he could see that the Afghan government would collapse, or for any other reason. In which case he would have been condemned. Doing what he did he will still be condemned, but what alternative did he have. It appears that he may be really trying to close Guantanamo prison, with one of the inmates being tried. It would have been good to conduct the trial in the USA, where the US legal system would be used, but that was the whole reason for having Guantanamo. Stop the lawyers from showing up the military system as a scam to make the President look good.
