  7. The old term “slinging mullock” means criticising or abusing someone. I grew up with it.
  8. Could have been worse if the n was a c.
  9. Bill and Ben were on Australian TV too. I don’t remember whether they were in my childhood or that of my own kids, but I remember watching them.
  10. It could also be the crack of dawn.
  11. Those of us who studied through UNSW around 1970 learned FORTRAN 4 using the Watfor compiler, which I think was created by one of their researchers. We then moved on to BASIC. Fortunately, at the time there were not many languages in use for the non-machine language peasants.

  16. This was a photo I took with my digital camera phone in 2005. That was the quality, and just having a camera in your phone seemed a miracle.
  17. Seven degrees here today. Snow in Kyneton.
  18. I like being kept in suspenders.
  19. I watched most of it and thought Trump failed badly. But Kamala isn't the greatest debater either, it was more that Trump lost.
  20. When my dad bought his FB Holden I told my mates that our new car had tick tocks. You know, that noise the indicators made when the amber tailfin lamps were flashing. Well, I was just driving my wife's 2024 Corolla Cross hybrid and realised that the sound is exactly the same. The Holden used an electromagnet and bimetallic strip in an aluminium can to switch the indicators, and the sound was an accidental consequence of that. Ever since, I suppose, makers of cars have found ways to reproduce a sound that happens to be perfect for letting you know the indicators are flashing. The Corolla must do it electronically through a speaker, but the sound is the same.
