  1. Once he gets the full array into orbit, he will call them down.
  2. Who is Elon Musk? Where did he come from? Don't accept the story in the media! An alien traveller marooned on planet earth would do the following: Use his superior technical knowledge to make innovations that generated lots of money. Gain control of the media so he could manage the story about himself and limit any leaks about the truth. Build space communication devices that could send a distress signal and, when needed, call down a mother ship. Build political connections to suppress information about alien objects in the sky. Develop rockets that could, eventually, carry him back to the mother ship. This is not a movie script. It is happening.
  3. Shutting down discussion? It is like good Germans in 1941 saying "we have heard about these things, but we cannot discuss them, because there will be a knock at the door".
  4. I know they are rolled and stamped out of pulp. No resemblance to a potato.
  5. My wife wants to throw ours out. At Clark Rubber the other day I was told that they are ideal for cutting foam rubber. So I think it is on its way to the workshop.
  6. I find it hard to believe that an electric can opener or electric carving knife is no longer a must-have item. Being conservative means you want things to stay the same.
  7. I recently threw out my mother's diaries and the tape recorder I was given for my sixteenth birthday. I am getting there slowly but am a hoarder by nature.
  8. The ABC has an article about the Aboriginal man who died in a home invasion while armed with a machete. The article says nothing about the the fear of the other man defending his young family. It goes on at length about the feelings and anger of the dead man's family that the innocent party will not be prosecuted, with photos of the dead man's family. This is a million miles from balanced reporting.

    Brain Teaser

I generally don’t open videos on this site. There is enough to read without them.
  10. Zulu time was experienced by Jack Hawkins and Michael Caine.
  11. The Berlin Wall was a very cost-effective measure that did exactly what it was designed to do. I wasn't around for the Great Wall of China, Hadrian's Wall, or the Walls of Babylon, but I suspect that each made a political statement and kept out the barbarians as designed for quite a while.
  12. The opinions here are bouncing around in an echo chamber. With the benefit of hindsight, I consider Biden's term to be far, far worse than Trump's first term. Based on actions and outcomes, not on what they said or claimed. I am hopeful (though not confident) that Trump will fix a lot of problems in the USA and in global relations. Most Trump critics focus on what he says, not what actually happens. He is full of BS and bluff, but it is an effective strategy for change. I think he is far more cunning than given credit for. By contrast Biden and his people are hypocritical dishonest low-life oligarchs and have now shown their true colours.
  13. Mutual respect would fix most of the problem.
  14. In the multiverse, you never die like those around you. There is always a split between the moment of your passing and the moment that you don't. You just go down the road less travelled.
  15. Wow, I guess those who are going to wait and see, with some hope of positive change, are keeping their heads down. Like we do about the myth of climate change.
  16. He is what the world needs right now.
  17. Here’s a true story from around here. The publican was down on bikers, and generally told them he was booked out for lunch when they arrived. A club of bikie barristers were refused service and so they sorted him out. The next licensee encouraged bikers and has done very well.
  18. Portland was recently named most affordable town. They have had big closures and a threat hangs over the aluminium smelter, but it is a lovely place if you can handle the wind and cloud. Our local pub is on its second Indian family and gets half a dozen patrons on a good night. They only open on Thursdays to Sundays. One local left his change on the bar and the barman took it.
  19. Some pubs and restaurants are closing here in central Victoria. They can't get staff. People have less disposable income. The once thriving Hepburn Springs is half shut down. Radio Springs hotel, very popular, is closing due to lack of staff. Many businesses have been bought by folks from India who do not know how to run them, and they gradually fade away. Some pubs, like Redesdale, seem to be doing well because they have made a name as a weekend lunch venue. Restaurants in Kyneton are struggling. I don’t know about the border areas.
  20. You might be like Lazarus. Once brought back, he was condemned to walk the earth forever. Or so one story goes.
  21. I went the chemo route. Still a bit buggered eight years later but happy to be here.
  22. But it isn't a battle, you just have to take each day as it comes.
  23. In his final address to the nation as president, Joe Biden called for the creation of a new Constitutional amendment to demolish the concept of presidential “immunity” from criminal prosecution. But OK for your family!
  24. Or hold their hose.
