Ballaarat was still the official name a few years ago. Balla arat (pronounced as two words), is a Wathaurong name signifying a camping or resting place, balla meaning elbow, or reclining on the elbow.

I was living in Ballarat when NV stopped making engines and shut down the factory. They had earlier absorbed another large Ballarat company, Ronaldson and Tippett. John Tippett told me he had travelled to England during the war to arrange manufacture of a portable generator for the military, which was quite successful.

There is a really good six-part series on SBS on demand at present called So Long, Marianne about the early life of Leonard Cohen. He was the lover of Charmian Clift when they lived on Hydra. Charmian's (illegitimate) daughter Suzanne was my teacher at Wagga Wagga high school and Suzanne's daughter Gina Chick was the winner of Alone Australia Season 1, after surviving 67 days alone, making her only the second female and oldest contestant in the history of the Alone worldwide to win. -

If I lived in the USA I would want more secure borders, jobs, low inflation and an end to woke craziness. There is a chance of all these with Trump, I don't think there would be with any Dem candidate.
