  1. In those days they couldn't tell Uranus from a black hole.
  2. While sedan and utility versions of the 48-215 (FX) and FJ Holdens were part of the lineup from the start, GM-H never marketed a station wagon until 1957, midway through the FE Holden's lifespan. However, a specialist motor body builder, Stanley Cordell of Hampton, VIC, is known to have produced up to six FJ station wagons. At a price of approximately 40% over that of the FJ Standard sedan, they were a rarity - and a luxury - in their day, and even moreso today. ( quote from motorclassica)
  3. I also heard that told about Alex Jesaulenko, back in the day
  4. I was once at the pointy end of a flight to Perth. He stood up and rehearsed a speech to all of us that he would be giving the following day. Imagine having the self confidence to do that.
  5. Ignore the campaigns on both sides! Make your own decision.
  6. There is no stigma in voting yes or voting no. That is what the referendum requires. Either way you are not aligning with anyone. Democracy in action.
  7. No, no a thousand times no.
  8. Kevin Johnson had many great but underappreciated songs. I have them on LP, one of the reasons I still have a turntable.
  9. When I was about 16 my parents were told I was dead. It was someone with the same name about 5km away. Car accident.
  10. I don't know as I never met her.
  11. I was told that the first working example was developed at Zinc Corporation in Broken Hill. I think they funded the CSIRO work.
  12. My wife and I spent a night on the beach at Palm Island once, when our boat was damaged. I walked into the village to tell the police that we were there.
  13. I drove through Coonamble today and it is in a sad state, so many empty shop fronts. I made a joke about the meaning of Coonamble and then had to look up the actual meaning. Believe it or not, it is Kamilaroi for big heap of shit. Ok you blokes won’t believe me, so here is the Wikipedia entry: The name for the town is taken from the Gamilaraay word guna (faeces) and -bil (having much).[2]
  14. Several commentators are speculating about an imminent collapse of Russian defences in Ukraine. Lack of supplies and poor morale could result in a rout if Ukraine breaks through the defence lines.
  15. Yes, but no. That is an established Aussie response.
  16. Saying it four times doesn’t make it a good idea!
  17. If you wake up you will find someone lurking within tent.
  18. Americans talk about a high rate of speed. What the hell is that? Speed is speed, a measure.
  19. Being sold because it wooden go.
  20. I believe the cavity magnetron that produces the microwaves is stimulated to a certain level then comes on. It is either on or off, not proportional. So temperature controls are just on/off governors.
  21. Truck drivers on many country roads in Africa don't use headlights at night. They believe they can see better using natural light and don't want to dazzle others. A big surprise for the visitor.
  22. I have never used up 45 days on my car or bikes.
  23. If a Bigfoot stepped in a bindi patch, would it be a yowie?
  24. I had a good chat with his son Doug about two months ago. Doug is the full bottle on everything Arkaroola and outback aviation too.
