You Are right, Nev. It's rampant. It's manipulatiIt's It blatantly unconscionable. It's sinister. It's not controllable. And it's everywhere. Before I go out and slit my wrists, is there anything WE can do to stop this runaway train?

Is it ALL gloom and doom?

A rare admission, Nev. Thanks. Can you stump up a fifty until payday?

Opinions rule this world, Nev.

Tenant Ck is one of those places where you have to prepay for fuel before tge pump will dispense. Daytime in tourist season is fairly safe but it's not a place I would live in, no matter how good the pay was. In Alice, I just didn't feel safe.

Australia was ahead of the game until Telecom was sold off. In the late 1980's America still had country businesses stuck with party lines. We had country wide Subscriber Trunk Dialling by then. In the American movies you saw people picking up a phone and saying "Operator, operator?". Anyway, the phone project is under way. The generator mechanism was completely frozen up by masses of rust, having been submerged in a mix of water and decaying battery chemicals. As a testament to old fashioned quality, I successfully completely dismantled it. Amazingly, I unscrewed every screw even those that had head rusted off!

A lady brought an old telephone in to the Mens Shed hoping somebody might be able to 'clean it up a bit'. Some of you old blokes might have distant recollections of these things. Well that's what it should look like. We passed the case along to a woody guy to glue it back together and refinish the American oak. I volunteered to try to recover the remants of the hand cranked ring generator, from a morass of rust.

Yeah, I felt like I was left off the map. Again.

I note that neither KH nor DT are spruiking any policies that might directly address the homelessness or the drug problem or the gun problems nor poor education that's plagueing the country. Much of those problems require a fundamental change of culture, by the population. Something that takes generations to achieve. I disregard migration as a problem. The American indians might disagree with that, but modern USA is historically a nation founded upon migration. Neither are they announcing actual real policies/action plans to stop arming beligerants in the middle east. The current bitter and violent division of the country has been stoked and promoted massively by DT. With the result that whichever party wins this upcoming election, many years will pass before we see the US of A start to improve, both globally and for the population.

This one has run every time it had to. Parts seem easily obtained. I have heard from a friend that they had a bad run with a chonda small motorbike motor that only lasted a couple of hours. But that's a different motor probably from a different factory.

I have one on my fire pump (shock horror). Got it back in 2013. It gets a couple of hours run each summer, and lives outside with only a bit of corrugated iron over it to keep the rain off. Which reminds me, I should change it's oil.

Hey I'm not sucked in by false news from main stream media. Nor Farcebook! My cleaning lady told me. And her uncle's mum works in Canberra. So she would know.

CORRUPTION IN AUSTRALIA? We don't have any of that in our grand country! If there was, the NACC would rout it out immediately!

Celebrating Positives (offset of the Gripes Thread)

Great idea for ageing incapacitated farmers that still work our farms. The all terrain mobility scooter! But probably not so popular with other shoppers in a supermarket. -
Thats a valid point. But where will you dig up a strong leader that cares about the people?

Artificial Intelligence - The Sorcerer's Apprentice

I totally agree with OME's analogy. The Sourcerers Apprentice, is out of the box, indeed. -
Artificial Intelligence - The Sorcerer's Apprentice
nomadpete replied to old man emu's topic in Science and Technology
Re: The Artificial Intelligence revolution.... I am ok with the concept in general, as a tech development. It's cool and has great potential in many ways. My concern is the fact that it is already being used for the evil purpose of manipulation of the masses. And there is no way to regulate it's use. Such stuff as deepfakes and blatant political (and profitmaking commercial) misuse. This has already shown that it is a rapid, highly believable level of reaching the masses. And of interfering with their minds. It's Faster, more believable, and harder to debunk than the older methods of communication and propaganda. In our new world of dangeroudly divided societies, we really don't need this added confusion. -
Merdok press serves tomake me question what is said. And causes me to spend time looking around for better information.

And still better than misinformed.

But Bruce, having a supreme being to praise, makes life so simple. Just think of how simple your life is when you accept a king or other dictator during your mortal life, and an eternal alpha male god for the remainder of eternity. A bit like staying a child forever.

So its not likely to get reruns nowadays, is it!

What to do with White Supremacists (and other fanatical type groups)?
nomadpete replied to Jerry_Atrick's topic in Politics
No. However, in my opinion, this is often related to education. And a lack of ability to analyse events around. Western society has a poor record for inspiring its adults to yearn constructively for answers. People with stronger analytical skills seem less likely to fall through the cracks. China's approach to the issue, is government run're-education camps. Tis a thorny question. -
