  1. That was a big reason I moved from Sydney to SE Qld back in 1976. I traded Sydney's swings between hot summers and frosty winters, for Qld's 3/4 of each year being pretty nice. Excepting Jan/Feb when the humidity bothered me.
  2. More states just multiplies the costs to the public. Multiplies the incompetance and petty pyramids of power. Leading to a process of more and more focus on smaller and smaller areas until there is total focus about nothing at all.
  3. When it gets that hot in Tas, we put the A/C on. And I run out of clothes to take off (to cool down). Which is not appreciated by the neighbours. It puts their chooks off the lay.
  4. I think you might find they also count the roofs, to compare with approved plans.
  5. Softie ! There. I said it. This morning was typical for this time of year down here. Yesterday was drizzle. Gusty winds, not too cold (maxed at 14 degrees). Today clear skies, sunshine brought the 4 degree start up to a pleasant warmish 16. So far only one brief shower! Beanies and overcoats have been put away for next winter. August, September are generally variable. It should settle down to more predictable cycles by the end of October.
  6. The (dis) United States of America seem so fragmented, I can't see it works very well as a nation.
  7. We already have W.A. Wait Awhile N.T. Not today, not tomorrow either.
  8. Yep. I agree. Lets cancel the states completely. Look at the savings just from sacking the squabbling state governments. We could be ONE NATION! (Ducks for cover)
  9. The Labor Day calender and the Kings Birthday calender really highlight (dis) United States of Australia's biggest problem. The bluddy states and territories can't seem to agree on any-bludy-thing! It's a surprise that we all drive on the same side of the road!
  10. Anyway, ever since Henry offered the option of electric lamps on the front of his T model automobiles, electricity has been creeping into cars. It's only logical that electricity should eventually surpass the archaic infernal combustion engine. Followingon from that, the world power structure will certainly change. For the better, I think. It will free many nations from foreign economic control over everything reliant on supply chains. And overall, the planet will be a cleaner, healthier place.
  11. OME, I'm confused. Please advise... Should that be capitalism with a capital 'C', or all in capitals? Also, can it still be capitalism when it is in a regional town, or only in capital cities? And Spaceys capitalism is in Italics. Does it only apply to Italy?
  12. Well I sympathise. Since it is such a life changing issue, howabout we pass the hat around, and post you a couple of packets of these treasured items. We might save you ten grand on airfares! (Not to mention saving you from spending a couple of mil on a new house)
  13. PS Sorry guys, but it looks like I wound up our chronopolice.
  14. Well there ya go. Didn't that cause a flurry! Until I looked it up, I had no idea there were so many 'Labor Days'.
  15. And China the same, or worse? But with completely closed books. I don't belive that the west ever matched the degree of subsidation that the CCP gave to their auto industries. Anyway, it worked. And, in true capitalist form, they will undercut the opposition until there is no opposition left.
  16. I see an ancient process.... First, create a really unique answer. THEN Find a cool question that fits it.
  17. Oh... Was there a question at all? I'm still blaming Nev for wrecking his sundial by turning it the wrong way.... Ever since he did that the sun has been rising an hour late!
  18. Totally agree, Jerry. The example of Japan post ww2 is not similar to chinas recent economic rise. Because Japan operated economically in the same world playpen as the rest of us. Modern china has noted that Japan eventually plateaued. China played by isolationist economics (which works a treat while you are leading the world in manufacturing). Its totalitarian gov heavily supported manufacturing in ways we never see in 'our' world. US of A cannot win nor recover) by using isolationist policy now - because it is no longer leading in world manufacture. It will shrivel faster than ever. Ironically, the communist system has beaten the capitalist system..... by being better at capitalism!
  19. I thought you just had to lift it up and turn it a bit to the left?
  20. Nah. If I ask him the time, he'll spend all afternoon telling me the world history of timekeeping
  21. Phew! That was the logest winded diatribe ever seen on it. As our resuden grammar policeperson, you might have said.... "Daylight saving starts today (in some states)" !
  22. That one is in the committee designers handbook.
  23. Careful, old mate. 'Tis most unwise to get a swelled head before the job is complete..... That said, now you know the supreme satisfaction of creating your own living space!
