  1. Not arguing that the product is good, but it's not done sustainably. Huon Aquaculture recently lost their RSPCA certification and they were supposed to be the good one. Just like mining - they need to do it in a way that doesn't f*ck the environment. Costs more of course but we have a "clean green" image down here which drives the tourist market and the fresh produce. If we don't have that the state is stuffed, so it's nonsensical and short sighted of the government to support an unsustainable business model.
  2. Yeah I certainly wouldn't say it's a ringing endorsement for Labor. It's made their job easier, that's for sure, but they'd be fools to become complacent and not read the tea leaves. For example in my electorate of Franklin a NEW Independent, Peter George, got 42% of the 2 candidate preferred votes, on a platform of mainly shutting down the offshore salmon farms that are rooting the environment and spreading chunks of rotting salmon around the local beaches. Labor has been one-eyed supporting the salmon industry, even though there's only about 26 jobs in it on the west coast from memory. It'd be cheaper to give every employee half a mill to stop working for them than what the government has been spending to prop it up. If Julie Collins (Labor) doesn't take notice of this and start gently steering Albo away from the salmon industry (remember Plibersek as Environment minister was doing her best to make a balanced decision on this but her review was stopped by legislation rushed through to protect the salmon farmers) - then next election Peter George may take more of a voting share, or even the seat. It's exactly the same problem as beset the Libs and look what happened to them. Those Teal independents won, and in general have retained the previously blue-chip LNP seats, exactly because they didn't listen to the electorate's concerns about the environment and still aren't.

    Quickies part 2

They'll discover it behind the fridge, covered in dust, the day after they throw away the coffin.
  4. Got news for American conservatives, the majority of the world is anti-Trump.
  5. If it's the old-fashioned way, it'd be a logistical nightmare. He's 53 now (gawd, the same as me - hopefully that's our only shared attribute). So let's generously give him 25 years of regular active sex life without the Viagra killing him. Let's also assume he can find say 2,500 women that are prepared to bear 2 of his monsters, or else 5,000 at one each. Let's also assume it takes an average of 10 tries to get each woman up the duff. So that's 50,000 roots in 25 years, or 2,000 a year (probably slowing down towards the end, lets start off with 5,000 a year and reduce as he ages). So in that first year he has to perform about 14 times per day - every day of the year! I guess at least it'll give him something to do other than wreck the US government.
  6. Is he going to father all the Martian children?
  7. Something extremely satisfying about the silly bastard dropping $60m and getting nothing for it. Apparently the Legalize Marijuana party spent about $6,000 (1/10,000th) and got almost the same number of votes.
  8. The Green vote has only decreased something like 0.5% overall since the last election - and that one was their biggest ever. They're saying that the reason this didn't translate to seats is because LNP preferenced Labor over Green.
  9. Willem Dafoe?
  10. Not them, but whoever is in their job 5 years later, by the sounds of it.
  11. "...vicious, violent, and repeat Criminal Offenders, the dregs of society, who will never contribute anything other than Misery and Suffering." Sounds like he's describing himself. Is he going to be the first prisoner? Orange is the new Orange.
  12. We can only hope. Given what he's doing to the US economy, chances are he'd hold the shottie backwards...
  13. If you didn't vote, you can't complain about the outcome.
  14. If "really spectacular" is code for "particularly stupid" then he's already achieved his ambition. Maybe he could retire early.
  15. Really? Everyone in our neighbourhood still has a wood heater.

    Funny videos

I didn't know whether to put this here, or music videos, or AI... but I liked it! https://youtu.be/A3XIkiSsHUM?si=hqJFIlfi_yagclLo
  17. I don't know that the LNP are going to actually learn anything from this result. Littleproud was on the radio today blaming the loss on, believe it or not... "Labor demonized Peter Dutton!" Obviously not because they had no policies apart from negative ones (how the hell do you oppose tax cuts AND have a higher deficit?), the stopping work from home bullshit, the cutting 41,000 public servants bullshit, the rolling back of climate action, the idiotic nuclear plans sometime in the next 20 years, the whiff of Trumpism, the shambolic campaign, and the desperate attempts to play the culture wars. This is not 1950. If the LNP want to recover from this they need to stop living in the past and thinking that Sky News represents any sort of reality. But no, it's all because Labor demonized Peter Dutton.
  18. I thought Albo's speech was quite generous, especially when he mentioned Dutton and someone in the crowd jeered - Albo stopped them and reminded them to be respectful. Mind you he did pick out one Labor candidate to congratulate, who just happened to be Ali France - who won the seat of Dickson (the seat previously belonging to Dutton).
  19. Wow, that was quick. Didn't think we'd get the results tonight.
  20. I'm actually feeling a bit sorry for the guy. He's trying to keep toeing the party line but his expression is getting sadder and sadder. Mind you he had a savage go at the Greens so that reduced my sympathy for him.
  21. She might have been talking about his mother.
  22. Nice looking plane. Still got 3 days on the auction and there's usually a reserve on things like this, plus a huge buyer's premium to the auction company. https://www.slatteryauctions.com.au/asset?consignmentNo=1-4-1-015614
  23. Some days I'm with you on the children thing.
  24. RFK is a brain-dead moron and every utterance from his mouth should be treated with the utmost suspicion.
  25. Polls have got it wrong too often for me to trust them. Apparently Mutton is also targeting marginal seats where there is the greatest discontent with cost of living. My biggest hope is for Labor to be returned as a minority government so they have to deal with the crossbench. In my opinion that leads to better government than having a whopping majority and being able to do whatever you please - that way leads to autocracy. Of course, if I had to choose between Labor winning with a majority and LNP winning, I'd take number 1.
