  1. Facts aren't even facts any more, thanks to Trump (and social media). Everything is just opinion and experts don't exist. This says to me that we MUST invest in universal early childhood learning and critical thinking ability in primary and high school. I'm not too concerned about Uni because if you haven't got a clue by year 12 you're not going to suddenly get one in uni.
  2. Ideally. I give her 3 weeks
  3. Just because the USA elects a right-wing crazy doesn't mean we have to. Those words "PM Dutton" chill me to the bone.

Think you're a bit late on that one OT, Jerry answered it at the top of the page.
  5. The problem with US democracy is that the people aren't required to engage in it. Therefore you will only get the motivated on each side. Obviously this time there weren't enough on the Dem side motivated to stop Trump.

  7. Exactly. You could argue that Hitler had a unified team too, it probably would have been much better for the world if it was shambolic and inefficient.
  8. I admire anyone who sees any optimism for the Trump administration, that's a seriously impressive feat. If you haven't read about Project 25, go check it out. That's what's going to happen (or at least very much attempt to happen) next. I don't feel so bad for the American people, they chose this. If everyone with half a brain had got off their arse and voted it wouldn't have happened. I do feel so bad for the Ukrainians, I just hope the European countries can up their supply of equipment so the loss of US material doesn't cause their immediate surrender. Makes me wonder whether NATO will survive in its current form or whether the EU will form a separate security pact without the US.

    Quickies part 2

Probably wasn't an issue on Jeffrey Epstein's plane.
  10. The only people Trump likes are billionaires and dictators. He will be led around by the nose by Putin and anyone willing to stroke his massive ego. The only possible good he could do for the USA is if they realize what a terrible mistake they made in electing him and steer away from criminals in future. Unfortunately, they already knew who he is and STILL elected him, so that seems unlikely.
  11. What, they existed for 60,000 / 40,000 years, but would have suddenly declined in the last 200 if we hadn't swooped in to save them? I agree we can't change the past. Just don't know why people get fired up about giving them the occasional handout when there are so many more egregious bad behaviours by the corporate world which seem to go unremarked.
  12. So it's not a property tax, it's an increase in tax on super over $3m, which in most cases is an entirely fair thing. They might have to do a carve out for farmers but they'll have to do it carefully.
  13. Source? Jeez they can't even get sensible changes to the CGT discount through without losing an election, how do you think that one would fly? Someone's making stuff up.

Well, I think it's pretty strange that you're trying to print "FEEL" full-page size, but I feel that's the answer.
  15. What a black day. I'm gutted. The US is officially the stupidest country on earth.

  18. Has someone who went to the Coldplay concert told you that, or was it from the Murdoch press?
  19. Sorry guys, but most of the posts on this thread just seem to be a bit of abo-bashing for the sake of it. So a people who, from their point of view, have been invaded, subjected to laws they don't understand from an authority they don't recognise, and subjugated/slaughtered/raped for 200 years, make a bit of money here and there where they can. Who cares? Meanwhile, corporations like Google (Alphabet) and Facebook (Meta) steal every bit of data about you that you produce and monetize it. Other corporations involved in mining knowingly add to the climate crisis, poison aquifers and leave massive damage to the land in the name of paying shareholders. To me it's evident that the harm done by major corporations is magnitudes greater than a bit of petty pilfering by some Aboriginal organisations. It's like worrying about a small scratch on your foot while the corporations are busily amputating your leg.

That's a bit simple isn't it? Never seen any bear in the desert, but especially not a polar one.
  23. I liked Dick Smith's matches - Dick Heads.

  25. The ad should say "AU model" or similar if it's an Australian phone. My son got done like that. He bought a Samsung (not sure what model) new from an Ebay seller. 3 months later there was a bright green line down the screen. I tried to get it fixed under warranty by Samsung Australia, they didn't want to know about it because it was a US model. Contacted Samsung US, they didn't want to know me as I wasn't the registered purchaser - the arsehole selling them on Ebay was. Contacted the seller - no response. Basically he could have taken the phone back and as the registered US buyer, got it replaced under warranty. But he couldn't be bothered. Contacted Ebay and put in a complaint, but they wouldn't even let me change my rating, so he's probably still flogging US stock. So my son is stuck with the line on the screen, because it would cost about $350 to replace the screen and the phone was only $400.
