The USA is no longer a dependable ally. From threatening to take over Greenland (leaving Denmark in the unenviable position of having to prepare to defend their territory from both Russia and the US), to invading Venezuela after destroying boats and killing survivors without any sort of due process, to unilaterally attacking Iran, to incarcerating visitors even from traditional allied countries without cause. Jerry ask yourself - if Australia were attacked and made a request for US assistance, is it likely they would? My feeling is that unless there was profit for their god-king, the answer would be no.

Definitely agree with the good neighbours thing. We're lucky enough to live on 5 acres, 20 minutes from Hobart, and can't see any neighbours from our place. Mind you, we get on really well with our neighbours - about 5 other families we've known over 10 years, our kids caught the same bus to school together, and we still get together a few times a year for parties. If someone needs something they put it on the group chat and usually within 5 minutes someone is offering to help.

Human life is too important for the choice to end it to be determined by an algorithm. Fully autonomous war machines are a huge threat. Once that genie is out of the bottle, all bets are off. We're not talking skeletal metal robots holding machine guns here. What about swarms of insect sized killers - going dormant for ages then activating on facial recognition and flying in the target's ear with a small explosive charge. What if that algorithm then decides that all people with a skin tone darker than X are a valid target. Or people wearing certain clothes. Or people in a certain age range. Or ethnicity. Or driving a certain model car. Or more likely, what if it gets hacked by a state player, or a crime syndicate, or just some incel in his mother's basement...

I think you're glossing over a few things here. Gina may employ around 4000 people, but she is also doing her best to lower working conditions for everyone - she is a major backer of the LNP, the IPA, and has made statements wishing Australia's employment conditions were more like parts of Africa, where people are willing to work for $2 a day. Not sure why she thinks everyone except her should work for peanuts, given her wealth has increased from the poverty line of $75,000,000 she inherited in the 90's to around $40,000,000,000 now.

Marriage is just a piece of paper. The loveliest couple I know, with two wonderful adult kids, have been together over 25 years without marrying.
