I'd argue that in recent times this has shifted from "less powerful/more powerful" to "powerful/powerful". For example corporations making large political donations. The corporations are powerful in their own right, in some circumstances even more powerful than the federal government, so that corruption is more of a trade between equals (money for influence) while your truly less powerful, the people who the government is meant to be representing, aren't even in on the game.

I don't know that Kamala could have done much better in the time she had. As for never making a leader or a stateswoman, her public speaking was excellent and made so much more sense than anything out of Trump's mouth. Yes the election outcome is what it is, and unlike the crying orange clown in 2020 there's no attempts to overturn it or encourage revolt. You may say that the electorate spoke, well around 2/3 of eligible voters did, the other 1/3 aren't engaged enough. I can accept the outcome but still consider them bloody stupid for doing it.

The problem with US democracy is that the people aren't required to engage in it. Therefore you will only get the motivated on each side. Obviously this time there weren't enough on the Dem side motivated to stop Trump.

I admire anyone who sees any optimism for the Trump administration, that's a seriously impressive feat. If you haven't read about Project 25, go check it out. That's what's going to happen (or at least very much attempt to happen) next. I don't feel so bad for the American people, they chose this. If everyone with half a brain had got off their arse and voted it wouldn't have happened. I do feel so bad for the Ukrainians, I just hope the European countries can up their supply of equipment so the loss of US material doesn't cause their immediate surrender. Makes me wonder whether NATO will survive in its current form or whether the EU will form a separate security pact without the US.
