It's a tradition bound up with a lot of dodgy history - these days (hopefully) usually entered because of love, but historically more to do with property/money rights, political/social power, shame (eg preggers)... some cultures the parties haven't even met before the wedding. My wife and I are married, reasonably happily - but I do wonder what the future will look like. "Thruples" and polyamory is becoming more widespread as the cultural imperative to have the same partner for life reduces. When you think of it, love and attraction are not limited to one person (even at a time) - so if shame and jealousy were removed then all sorts of combinations are possible.

My DeWalt rattler is now over 15 years old and can still drive batten screws into old timber. Original 18v batteries (I have 5 luckily, thanks to a 2nd hand purchase). Probably used weekly. One of his... "alternative facts" was to point to Ontario as an example of nuclear power giving cheaper power bills than anywhere in Australia. Well, according to a Canadian professor who's an expert in power generation, from Ontario, it's been incredibly expensive and the power bills are highly subsidised by the government, which means by the taxpayer. When asked if other Canadian provinces had cheaper generation, the answer was most of them, the cheapest being the ones using hydro power. (Radio National Breakfast this morning). Solar / wind / storage is THE CHEAPEST form of power, with the added bonus that it's simple, renewable, and doesn't produce radioactive waste, take 20 years and billions of dollars to build. As Jerry said the brown paper bags are changing hands. Never ceases to amaze me that conservative voters don't realise that the ultimate aim of the LNP is to redistribute wealth from the poor to the rich.

Deep down they know he can't fix anything in their lives, but they don't think Kamala will either, so they'll vote for the one they relate to.

Option 2: a near death experience lets some people who believe in a god which is different and better than all the other gods that other people believe in (in fact all the others don't exist), see an afterlife which is limited to humans who believe in that god despite humans being biologically almost identical to a rat. Now please check your belief system at the door, put on that logical problem solving pilot hat which I hope we all have, and choose.
