    Paris Olympics

She must be able to dance when she wants to as she has a solid record of winning or placing in major competitions in Australia and overseas. The story I heard on the radio was that in Paris she knew she couldn't compete with the others so she decided to push a few artistic boundaries by wriggling around like a goanna and doing that highly embarrassing kangaroo hop thing.
  2. I seem to remember the problem with white rice and white bread is that the seed has the germ and bran removed which makes it more easily digestible. It's the carbohydrates digesting too fast that causes a hike in your blood glucose level. The germ and bran are also the nutritional parts. At least that's how I remember reading it; I could be wrong. I had a couple of pre diabetic readings a while back so have been cutting back on the carbs for the last three months. It's keeping the weight down to a manageable degree as well. Mainly less rice and pasta. I don't like potatoes and rarely ever eat them, so that's one less to cut down on.

Someone has started a change.org petition to hold the breakdancing lady accountable for unethical conduct in the selection process. The claims are that she set up the body to represent Australian breakdancing and appointed herself head of it. Other claims are that her husband was made coach and judge in the selection process. It does make you wonder when you see the dancing ability of those who lost out to her in the selection for the team. https://www.change.org/p/hold-raygun-rachel-gunn-anna-mears-accountable-for-unethical-conduct-olympic-selection
  4. You could see how it was going. First up, post a series of posts then wait for responses. Then they could test it's replying ability.
  5. I agree. The first thing I thought about the wording was AI. My guess is someone in China testing their attempt at a version of ChatGPT.
  6. Not really a music video, but it's Jimmy Fallon and a scary old man:
  7. Where I was born is predominately brigalow country. It was a challenge to clear for the soldier settlers as the ballot blocks were uncleared. One consolation is that it often grows in good soil and it seems to like black soil plains type country. In the early scrub pulling days, pulling brigalow just created much more brigalow; the suckers come back like hairs on a cat's back. They eventually came up with the idea of a cutter bar attached to the rippers to cut the roots off below ground level.
  8. It's a bit hard to tell from the photo; I was just going by the dark trunks. Brigalow is an Acacia so they have a wattle leaf and not a central leaf vein like the eucalypts.
  9. Sounds like a Noisy Friarbird. They have a bump on top of their beak. There's a couple of permanents living at my place who love to look at themselves in my car's side mirrors.
  10. I saw one of those Youtube videos where they interview Trump supporters. One bloke was convinced Michelle Obama was really a man and there was a conspiracy cover up to hide the fact. The interviewer asked him where he got his news sources from and he said he didn't read or watch any news as it was all fake and he gets his facts from Telegram.
  11. Over the years I'd fallen into the habit of print writing things like shopping lists, records etc. instead of using running writing. It got to the stage where I almost forgot how to write in running writing so I try to make a point of using it for shopping lists just to keep in practice.
  12. I think the use of devices degrades writing ability to some extent. When writing something down on paper there's a direct connection with brain/eye/hand coordination. As your brain thinks of a word your hand is creating it physically. With keyboards there's a certain amount of disconnect as you are essentially just pressing buttons. I don't know if it affects others the same way, but my writing and spelling ability gets worse as keyboard use increases. I can understand the writing getting worse due to lack of practice, but for some reason it impacts on spelling as well.
  13. The Lee/Grant tanks had a few faults. High visible profile, limited movement of the 75mm gun sponson and riveted construction making them prone to spalling if hit were some of the problems. I think the U.S. variant had a taller turret than the British one. Apart from the original Continental radial, they experimented with a few different engines. One was a radial diesel, another coupled two 671 GMs, and another one had five Chrysler car engines mated together (photo below).
  14. The Trump/Musk interview was a non event as expected. A rambling Trump and his autistic billionaire fanboy. Neither is capable of stringing a coherent sentence together.
  15. Looks like a bit of brigalow in the photo.
  16. That got me thinking about the Abrams which is also gas turbine powered, so I had a look at the Abrams Wiki page. One bit of trivia there is that Abrams track wear is the second biggest consumable expense for the U.S. Army, only topped by MRE's.
  17. Apologies for the crude graphic. I took a screen grab from Google Maps and outlined the Kursk Oblast in blue and the Belgorod Oblast in yellow. The point being is that it illustrates how desirable it is to incorporate both oblasts into the Ukrainian state. Not only for the historical claims of both regions belonging to Ukraine, but also as a much needed security buffer zone against future Russian aggression. Ukraine's second largest city of Kharkiv will never be safe as long as Belgorod is under Russian control. If the Ukrainians get control over the two regions, they are not going to want to ever give them back. In the second graphic downloaded from the net, it's a similar view but without Belgorod region highlighted.
  18. One way it could pan out - Kamala Harris wins the November election to become the first female U.S. president, and runs again in 2028 against Nikki Haley as the Republican candidate. That's assuming the Republican Party can purge itself of the crazies after a Trump defeat.
  19. You could lose count of the number of notable Republicans who have endorsed Harris lately.
  20. A weekend poll by the New York Times shows Harris leading Trump 50% to 46% in the three crucial must win states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. She's on a roll.
  21. There's been a fire in a cooling tower at the Russian occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine. The Russians are saying it was struck by a Ukrainian drone attack. The Ukrainian Nikopol regional military administration reported that the Russians set fire to a large number of car tyres at the plant. I took this screen grab of a video of the fire. Drone attack or burning tyres? My money is on the tyres. Looks like a tyre fire to me. Plus it's exactly the sort of dumb thing the Russians would do.
  22. Usually when Ukraine has a bit of a win, putler responds by bombing hospitals, schools and other civilian targets. It seems to be his MO.
  23. I doubt there will ever be any big public uprising against the government, but the more unpopular he gets and the more blame that is directed at him increases the chance of a Kremlin coup to get rid of him. It's hard to see any successor wanting to continue the madness in Ukraine; at least not at the all or nothing, go for broke method of putin. If the war went his way they'd stick with him. If it goes bad for Russia, eventually the blame will fall on putin after he tries blaming everyone else. If that happens, he's stuffed.
