Why did he need the truck?

Did you ever think that the employer was looking for someone with current experience in the position they were trying to fill? While I acknowledge that you did your duty, infantry experience doesn't translate into private sector occupations. You were unlucky that your number was drawn. Think of your mates whose numbers were not drawn. While you were serving your country, they were gaining skills and experience in the private workplace. Reading between the lines of your above post, I get the idea that there is more to your story than it would be polite for me to seek out, so I won't. I'll give you that bit of respect, but will you give me a modicum of respect and quit this "suit your selfish egos" shit.

Let's not forget that the seals between surfaces of components of engines made that long ago were not perfect. Even the paper gaskets did not have an infinite service life. If you were a vehicle manufacturer, relying on continuing sales, year after year, would you be hoping that what you build today will run as well in 80 years as it does on Day One? I'm only lucky that this model of bike was built on a military contract. Production figures vary, but they range between 80,000 and 90,000 completed units. However there also had to be spare parts. Here is a page out of the spare parts book. The far right column shows how many of each part are required per 1000 complete bikes.

I'm about to pay $600 for a reconditioned oil pump for the WLA. A "new" one is over $US750, and I can't be sure that the new one is up to OEM specs. But that's what you have to pay for parts for 80 year old machinery. It was wiser to buy a complete pump than to buy to ball valve and spring, plus the tool to recut the valve seat and for me to try to do a job I know nothing about. Now all I have to do is undo some pipes; remove and replace the oil pump and reconnect the pipes. The oil pump works, but the ball valve is a check valve that stops oil draining from the oil tank to the crankcase when the engine is not running. I left the bike for a month and the oil tank drained onto the floor.

I was going to say that, but I don't like to state the obvious. Apparently it's a sign that a new marriage is settling in well if she plays Dutch ovens in bed.

What do you think all the kerfuffle during his 2016 campaign was all about. It seemed to be that the Ruskies had some good video of him from his earlier times in Moscow involving him and a pro, and she wasn't "showering" him. Given his association with Epstein, such behavior would be par for the course. But has Trump ever honestly made par?

There was a saying in Sydney, "Who would want to be the richest man in Rookwood?". Rookwood is a major cemetery in Sydney, located at Lidcombe. Recently, thinking about Musk's enormous wealth, I thought it would be interesting to ask him where all his money will go after he dies. He's a bit of a stud bull. He's fathered 14 children.

You might like to learn this definition of "experience": : practical knowledge, skill, or practice derived from direct observation of or participation in events or in a particular activity. How many cyclone have crossed the coast in highly urbanised areas? Most cross in rural areas. This is a unique experience in that part of the world, and its effects will be different from the experience gained in the Tropics. So, no doubt plans have been made based on the experience of those events in the Tropics, but knowledge will be gained in how urbanised areas are affected by cyclones, and how what was thought to be good plans will be reviewed and future plans made based on that review. Everyone, including you, GON, uses a basic management sequence: Think about how you go about making a cuppa for smoko. The application of the sequence is obvious if you want a decent cuppa. If what you brew this time isn't good enough, you'll check for what went wrong and adjust your plan. And it won't be parliamentarians who will do the review. It will be people trained in emergency management such as the many sectors of government which deal with energy and water supply; medical response, damage clearance. The list goes on. Let's be fair, and acknowledge that politicians are not expected to have the experience in dealing with these things. We really don't expect them to 'hold a firehose'. That's why they delegate the authority to do so.

Although I have not heard any report quoting that Dutton has indicated joint support, I'm simply trusting that he has sufficient humanity to give the government his Party's support. Don't forget that the areas to be impacted are strong Conservative areas, so it would be political suicide for him not to support government efforts. Also, after this emergency has passed, there will be a multi-agency debriefing to find out what worked and what didn't. The emergency response will have been carried out by humans and there are bound to be some mistakes, or things previously overlooked. The debriefing will help to improve responses to future similar emergencies.

Meanwhile, on Wall Street, Trump's work (or should one really say Project 2025's) on the economy is creating a fire sale of stocks. Oh! People are losing money and jumping from tall buildings as they did in 1929. But the astute, i.e. the billionaires are waiting with cash in hand to purchase stocks at bargain prices. The billionaires simply have to sit pat until the market steadies and begins to rise again to reap in more wealth. I'm pretty sure that in the middle of 2024 there were reports that stock market guru, Alan Buffet, was accumulating ready cash by selling shares at good prices. He wasn't preparing t finance a luxurious retirement. He saw what Trump's policy would cause and girded his loins for battle.

Is a choice of occupation. One can always resign.

He's just said that for the moment, any electioneering is off the table until this storm has been weathered (not a pun) and things brought back to a semblance of normality. In case you had not heard, the States' requests for the assistance of the military has already been granted. Did you know that also there is a Federal disaster relief coordination organisation within the Federal government that, no doubt, has been working flat out over the past week organising the delivery of aid to the areas expected to need it? At least these radical leftist politicians have done something to enable assistance to be provided to those citizens who will need it. Don't forget that the Dept of Social Services will be preparing to provide immediate financial assistance to victims. The above paragraph could be taken as a cheap shot at Conservatives, but I'm sure that the concern for victims would be bipartisan.

For decades the USA has claimed to be the World's Policeman. "To Protect and to Serve", has been the motto of the Los Angeles Police Department since 1963, subsequently adopted by many other police forces in North America. I guess it no longer is the motto of the World's Policeman. Can those countries allied to the USA continue to trust its adherence to any agreement with them? If the Republican administration is tossed out in four years' time, will its replacement ever be trusted by the rest of the World?

The reason those Methuselahs appear in the figures is quite easily explained. Before computerisation, the data was recorded manually. When it was computerised, sometime in the 60s (?) the programming language used was COBOL. Apparently Musk's computer nerds never learned that language and so are unable to understand why those Methuselahs are in the data. Also, there may be a bit of false information in the reporting. The print out must be a spreadsheet with the data in columns. Apparently the data in the next column shows the date of the last payment to the recipient. and for the Methuselahs, those dates show last payments being made before the 1950s or 60s. There are so many videos being published daily identifying the falsehoods of the Trump administration that it's impossible to remember which one contained the information I have related here. I can't search my viewing history because I can't remember the title of that particular video, or on which day I watched it.

Let's see what the March exports to the USA are. If they drop from the average monthly figure, then it's time to yell. I suspect that Both Albo and Dutton are adopting and wait and see attitude before taking the plunge one way or the other. While we have our own domestic topics on which to run election campaigns, the global situation generated by Trump is something to monitor. We also have to be mindful of China/USA trade. If that breaks down, China will not want our raw materials to the current levels. Globalisation: The knee bone's connected to the thigh bone.
