  1. There was a guy trying to explain life insurance to a russian... "you bet you won't die" he said. To which the russian asked " what if you die young? The westerner replied " Then you win!"
  2. This is what I've read and believe to be true... An insurance company will pay out 1/3 of its premiums in claims. ( the rest goes in overheads and profits ) So if you have ordinary luck, you have to lose on the whole deal. I reckon the best deal would be to be in an insurance club, whose sole purpose was to keep the wolf from the door for members. This club should not start to baulk until the claims were closer to 100 percent.
  3. jerry how do you know that you are actually insured? The only way I know of is to figure out if they are making money from you. Auntie Pat found this out the hard way.... well, if she had not been demented, she would have got a rude awakening. I reckon that it is not for nothing that they take control of the fine print.
  4. What is due to happen in the murray-darling basin?
  5. I finally figured out just what Trump was up to.... He used his "standard business tactic " on the Ukraine, and got angry when it didn't work. Here is how Trump operates.... 1. he sees an opportunity. The war with russia fitted the requirements here, 2 . He sees a solution.... giving lots to Putin was an easy solution. 3. He has a "meeting" of various heavyweights, to which the hapless victim is not invited... The purpose of this meeting is to put the victim in his place. 4.He unveils his solution to the victim, and it is often accepted. Well it often worked on contractors who Trump employed,
  6. Apparently she killed him and then suicided.
  7. Well said Jerry.
  8. Wow!!!! How do you figure he was really a woman all the time?
  9. I reckon Trump was elected as a reaction against the "woke" lot. While I personally would have voted for Kamala, I do admit to feeling she was dead wrong to "support" the gender-diversity nonsense that has enabled a male boxer to KO women with one punch, Yes, he ticked the correct box and was competing as a woman. On the subject of gender-diversity, I support males in all areas of competition except for sport, where the advantage of male structure is just too much to overcome. Supporting this is the observation that there is NO example of a woman claiming to be a man to compete in sports. There is a story ( cant verify if it's true ) of an Australian world-champion winning team being easily beaten by a team of schoolboys.
  10. I've been caught by a scam and still don't know what I did so wrong, what happened is that I bought a translator-device over the net, and it was re-supplied till my card ran dry ( 9 times). How can I "prove" i didnt re-order? The original order was recycled. From now on, I will only buy stuff through paypal... .
  11. There was an old lady ( 80's) in the UK who was refused her regular bottle of sherry cos she didn't have "proof" that she was old enough to buy it. She had no passport or driver's license. What do you suggest Marty?
  12. I like examples.... but I don't know of an example where news was twisted by the abc, so in the meantime I reckon its factual.
  13. Thanks OME, I was referring to al Khwarizmi. Sorry about my poor spelling of arabic names
  14. Thx guys. I still reckon that democracy is the only system worth fighting for, so I am certainly at odds with the islamists . There is a story about the first Chinese ship to visit east Africa, where they heard about Europe and decided it was too primitive to even visit. Funny huh how the Europeans returned to China ( after hundreds of years ) and found the place so primitive that they ruled for many years. It was the same with the arabs. I reckon what happened can be explained by the loss of religion in Europe with the reformation.
  15. Here's one for OME, I think... Why were the arabs so clever in the days of al-kaswami but so silly these days? Apparently there are "schools" where the only book allowed is the koran.
  16. Thanks, Nomad. I fear you are correct, but I would still like to just take a pill or 2 to lose weight. What about liposuction? Getting back to the "near death experiences", did you ever consider the evidence of the pattern-generator they put on top of the operating-theater lights. Operating theaters are a popular place to die, and near-death people often told how they could look down and watch the event of their death. This was taken by religious people as "proof " in the details of their religion. But NOT ONE of these told of the pattern correctly. I take this as proof that the "near death" religious experience is a bunch of nonsense. Obviously, the brain in its death -throes can come up with lots of stuff.
  17. AND, there is a song from out of the 'fifties which blames " my two amigos, Nick Otine and Al Kahol"
  18. Nomad, your posting is hard to disagree with, but why did you say "avoid weight-loss drugs"
  19. How about this for an idea? We look up the best system in the world ( longest lifespan etc etc) and contract that lot to run our system? We would probably see the super-rich come out fighting, but they should lose the fight. I hope.
  20. I reckon that democracy is a far stronger system than autocracy, and we are seeing a fair battle between the two right now. Nev is clearly correct about Hitler and the book-burning, gosh you wouldn't last long under Hitler if you disagreed with him on something fundamental.
  21. Why do you use those things, jerry? I reckon I get by fine with just this site and emails. I must be missing something.
  22. In the olden days, they used much smaller plates, but they all died young too.... I had 3 rellies die at 48! Personally, I blame 1: smoking and 2: poor diet even if the portion size was ok
  23. Spacey, by "release to the public" do you mean " put on the Benefits List?
  24. I'm trying with the plates etc Onetrack
  25. Apparently Ozempic and Wegovy are the same drug, marketed to different audiences. Also, according to my exercise-nurse, they don't have long term effects and putting the weight back on is a problem for stoppers of the drug/s. Thx for the comments OME. My recollection is that the weight ( I am just over 100kg ) went on quickly after I stopped trying to keep it under 90kg. I blame my 70th birthday for this ..." threescore years and ten shalt be thy days "... the bible says. Well i sure outlived any male relative, my father died at 67 which i foolishly thought at the time was incredibly old.
