onetrack
I can remember a good story about Stirling Moss when he visited N.Z. in the early 1960's. He hired a car and discovered N.Z.'s great roads - little traffic, good road surfaces, long stretches where he could wind the car out, and twisty bits where he could practice his corning techniques. But unbeknowns to Stirling, he was being chased by one very angry Traffic Patrol Policeman in a panting Zephyr. When the cop in the nearly-expired, overheated Zephyr, finally caught up to Stirling, and flagged him down, the copper jumped out, notebook in hand, red-faced and flustered, and yelled out - "Just who the Hell do you think you are? - to be driving like that? Stirling Moss??" LOL
Litespeed
Stirling would be great to have a beer with. I guess he was over for the Trans tasman series, all the F1 boys would come and race and party in OZ and NZ each year. They reckon it was the best time of the calendar, less pressure, great weather and hot women.
Yenn
The greatest driver never to win a world championship. Mainly because he drove British cars. He should have joined Ferrari
Methusala
Perhaps Damon Hill was the worst ever to become world champion!
Yenn
But his father Graham Hill was great. After winning at Monaco twice he asked if he won there again would they give him the place.
Jerry_Atrick
It better learn to walk if it comes to Narellan Vale. Those pesky trees get in the way of houses. Jeepers.. THat is very sad for Aus...
Old Koreelah
Back to wildlife; given the recent stories about them being heroes, these critters must have employed a great PR team: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-02-07/water-diviner-wombats-bring-animals-to-water-hole/11937990
facthunter
Moss was notorious for being hard on gearboxes.. Often that makes it harder to win races..He also had some monumental Prang about that time and was somewhat different as a personality after that. Grahame Hill was a very unassuming person and died in a light Twin he was piloting which crashed in low vis conditions in the UK There's always plenty of half naked dolls/bimbo's around the Pits. 1/2 the people in the world are women.. Nothing to get excited about .Nev
Methusala
Visited the famous Nurburgring last September. Had to go to the desk with a question. It was manned(?) by a young woman who was really breathtakingly beautiful. Racing attracts them all right! Sad to hear that Graeme Hill was taken by a flying accident. facthunter
Jack Brabham used to fly himself all over Europe in a twin also. Jack was a constructor and a good driver.. Nev
Yenn
Jack was world champion driver and also world champion builder. The only man I think to build and drive his own car to a world championship. His flying included hitting a roo when landing, I forget when and where.
red750
This thread has drifted a bit from wildlife, so here's a bit more. While researching Jack Brabham and kangaroos, I came across this article about another Aussie air ace and race driver, Tony Gaze. (Don't know if he is related to basketballer Andrew Gaze). https://www.smh.com.au/national/ace-of-air-attack-and-motor-track-20130808-2rkcr.html
