onetrack Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 Nev, Nissan reported a profit in every year, up until last year. Even in 2018, when their sales were slumping, they still made 2.7% operating margin. In 2017, it was 4.8% operating margin. In 2016, it was 6.3% operating margin. This is not a mob struggling to make money - except for the last 12 mths, when their sales have increasingly nosedived. https://global.nissannews.com/en/releases/release-38d144e67f3bedef1b961fff830b6e0a-190514-01-e#:~:text=YOKOHAMA%2C%20Japan%20%E2%80%93%20Nissan%20Motor%20Co.%2C%20Ltd.&text=Based%20on%20the%20factors%20outlined,an%20operating%20margin%20of%202.7%25. https://www.nissan-global.com/EN/DOCUMENT/HTML/FINANCIAL/SPEECH/2017/2017results_speech_976_e.html#:~:text=The%20following%20are%20our%20fiscal,income%20was%20746.9%20billion%20yen. https://www.nissan-global.com/EN/DOCUMENT/HTML/FINANCIAL/SPEECH/2016/2016results_speech_431_e.html#:~:text=For%20Fiscal%202016%2C%20Nissan%20delivered,yen%20for%20the%20financial%20period.&text=Net%20income%20rose%2026.7%25%20to%20663.5%20billion%20yen. 1

octave Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 Hasn't every vehicle manufacturer suffered a nose-dive in sales in 2020? Tesla has done quite well during the pandemic Tesla Reports a Profitable First Quarter as Most of the Auto Industry Weathers the Coronavirus Pandemic
onetrack Posted June 6, 2020 Posted June 6, 2020 Yes, nearly all vehicle manufacturers have suffered a fall in sales this year, with the pandemic leading to a serious and rapid drop in sales. However, Kia, Toyota, Subaru - and surprisingly, Holden - all recorded sales increases in March 2020 - the latest month that collated figures are available for. Holden had an incredible increase of 30% in March sales. But the catch there is - they came off a low base figure - and they offered run-out discounts of up to $17,500, that saw buyers flock to get the last Holdens (mostly Colorados). https://www.caradvice.com.au/840053/toyota-sales-surge-in-march-other-brands-hit-the-brakes-in-toughest-month/ Nissan, however, is leading the pack in a continuous sales decline that started in 2016, and which has been accelerating since that time, leading to their 2020 disaster that has seen even Mercedes drop their Nissan-Navara-based ute.
facthunter Posted June 6, 2020 Posted June 6, 2020 Nissan actually went broke about 1997 and Renault bought in. Same with MACK trucks around the same time. GM USA was technically owned by the US government. when Obama was Pres. and I doubt they are very strong at the moment, either. They had an optional stake in FIAT they pulled out of at some cost penalty.. Nev
