old man emu Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 My local area has been relatively free of C-19, except for a few restrained cases from that cruise ship. That's up until now. Between 3rd and 10th July a cluster started from a pub where the Hume Highway enters the Sydney Metro Area. That's in the Liverpool Local Government Area (LGA). It soon spread to its neighbouring LGAs, Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly. Now the strain has been identified as the Victorian strain. That's not unexpected as this pub is frequented by interstate truckies. Now my local regional shopping centre has issued a warning that infected people have been there, and that shops should undertake deep cleaning. Several pubs in the area have also been forced to shut down for a deep clean. What gives me the willies is that yesterday I had to take my wife to the District Hospital at Liverpool - at the centre of the Crossroads Pub outbreak. My wife has been immobile for six months due to other health problems, but yesterday she was pitched into a busy A&E facility with who knows what floating in the air. We hope that she has come away without any little nasties stowing away. There's one thing for sure. She was cleared by temperature test to enter the A&E. If she comes down with it, we know from where she got it. The poor staff were flat out dealing with the usual trips, falls and organ problems that it gets. My wife was asked if she would mind sitting on a chair ( comfortable) in the ward in order to make a bed free for people with more serious problems. One thing that did annoy us was that a doctor came in to start work and the screening staff asked if he wanted a face mask. His reply: "I don't need one. I'm a doctor." White, male sixty-odd old. 2 2
octave Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 After a phone consultation i had to to attend in person for a medical appointment recently. The precautions at the medical centre were very good, they had people wait in their car and they would phone them when it was time. The doctors wore blue surgical scrubs, surgical mask and plastic visor. The thing that was hard to believe is that one lone doctor wore none of this, he was dressed in normal attire, very hard to understand. 2
pmccarthy Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 We are lucky to be countryVictorians and are taking a caravan holiday. Got back from a shopping trip into Horsham today to hear that there are two cases there today. Should have stayed home. 2
Bruce Tuncks Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 What do the US and Russia have in common, besides the exploding virus numbers and their strong-man leaders? How strange a thing that these countries should stand out as being so similar. 1

Admin Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Socialism vs capitalism...there now seems to be no difference except in capitalism the rich get richer and the poor get poorer creating a 2 class society instead of a 3 class one and the end result of capitalism's 2 class society is a total destruction of true democracy

It seems that in China and Russia, as in the USA, Petro-kingdoms and any other country, the rich and are getting richer and more powerful, and the rest are not benefiting from their own labours. 1
red750 Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 I am not downplaying the seriousness or impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, but just to clarify the numbers we see in the news every day, the World Health Organisation directive to all nations states that if present, the recording of deaths show coronavirus as the cause or contributing factor regardless of the cause. So if the patient died of cancer or heart attack but had coronavirus in their system, the death was recorded as a coronavirus death, not a cancer death or heart attack death. This could be extrapolated to record a car accident death to coronavirus if the virus was found to be present. Therefore, the death statistics could be inflated.

In terms of course of death, does someone die of lung cancer or do they die because lack of oxygen causes organs including the heart to stop functioning properly. I am no expert of course but I imagine that if someone is in ICU and has covid and has falling blood oxygen levels and if this causes them to go into cardiac arrest then I think you could say that the cause of death was covid exacerbated by the pre existing cardiac problems. One way of analyzing the death rate is to compare the death rate now with a similar period before the covid era. By analyzing the excess death rate you can begin to see the actual rate. Excess mortality from the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) Whilst many of these deaths may have been in people with one or more pre existing conditions it would be wrong to exclude every one of these except those with perfect health. Enough experience has been gained by the medical profession to know what dying of covid looks like for example falling oxygen levels and Cytokine storms etc.

Nev Nev, the truth is, Putin is a lot more fluent in English than Trump. Like Angela Merkel, he's very fluent in Russian, German and English. It's a rare thing to see him speaking English as it's his personal choice not to. When he's in interviews or negotiations with an English speaker, he always uses a Russian/English translator. It's a tactic to buy him time while the translator translates; he knows very well what the English speaker said. He's cunning. Trump's affluent but not fluent. Or like Kim said in Kath and Kim, 'effluent'. 2

red750 Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Here is an interesting animated graph showing the progress of Covid-19. Not on the graph to start with, on top by the end. Global Deaths in 2020 Due to Various Causes including COVID-19 1 1
Admin Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 428 new cases in the last 24hrs plus 3 deaths and this bloody idiot Premier believes in long term suffering instead of acting quickly and LISTENING to those in the Health Industry instead of brow beating them and saying HE IS THE BOSS... Feed from Social Australia
Admin Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 Watching this a-hole Premier's news conference I hear he is now blaming the people of Victoria, well maybe so but THAT is what we need a LEADER for, the guy is so weak...John Howard would have not taken any crap and just locked the State down in Stage 4 instead of prolonging the agony for week after week after week...Andrews is gutless and an idiot...I am furious
Yenn Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 We don't know what John Howard would do, but as I consider him to be a very poor PM I am guessing that he would not have done any better. What has your premier really done wrong and have Victorians behaved correctly. Looking at the problem from Qld I see a load of Victorians who did not comply with the requirements. Maybe I am wrong as I can only see what the media deals up.
old man emu Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 Gladys in NSW is allowing up to 300 people in hotels and gaming places. If it's not Murdoch running the country, it's the Liquor and Gaming forces. 1

Maybe I am wrong as I can only see what the media deals up. My personal opinion is that in times of adversity, we look to leadership, and I feel that we are just not getting it. Leadership is about having the balls to make the hard decisions and as the heavy Labour supporter areas have been the hardest hit, one really must ask the question WHY it is these areas, the State Government seems to not have the balls to come down HARD on those areas for the betterment of the ENTIRE State. Whether you like Howard or not, I respected him for his continual showing of his love for this country and every single Australian in it, and let's face it, how could a person have been the 2nd longest serving Prime Minister without having done the job well by the majority of Australians. He was hard, when hard had to be, and that is why I referenced him. ---------------------------------------------- More Corruption, Cedar Meats, a large outbreak of the Virus in Victoria and A CONTRIBUTOR TO THE LABOUR PARTY: Opposition health spokeswoman Georgie Crozier said the lack of transparency in Victoria was concerning. Ms Crozier revealed the government responded to a Freedom of Information request on the 111-case Cedar Meats cluster by releasing entirely redacted documents. ------------------------------------------------- Anyone that turns a blind eye to that above, all I can say is to quote Bruce Springsteen "Having blind faith in your leaders will get you killed" and guess what...people are dying! What I am hearing from colleagues is that things are really really bad behind the closed doors of the Premier and the Federal Gov needs to find a way to constitutionally step in with the AFP...the Stacking corruption is so minor compared to what has gone on by Andrews

Old Koreelah Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 "Make America Great Again"? More like "Make America the Laughing Stock" and give Communist China a free pass to world leadership. It amazes me that this collossal grub still has any supporters at all. Just goes to show how parochial US politics has become, but quite a few high-profile Republics are now supporting Joe Biden.
octave Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 COVID-19 Vaccine Front-Runner to Enter Final Stage as Positive Results Get Published
Admin Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 My daughter and I went to get tested today and they wouldn't test us. Caitlin works as a casual at Adairs in a small shopping center and she received a text from her boss saying a positive C - 19 case has been found at Cotton On a few stores away. Caitlin had been in that store a few days ago so we decided to go and get tested. Waiting for a while in the car we got to the front and they turned us away and said go to the hospital if we get any symptoms but they wouldn't test us. I see Andrews on the news saying they are testing more and more people every day and have even opened more testing stations. We all know you can have the virus and spread it around before you even start showing symptoms but they wouldn't test us even though there was a possible exposure.
