fly_tornado Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 coal is looking more and more like asbestos and tobacco, the 1st world rejects it, the sellers just move to marketing it in the 3rd world.
bexrbetter Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 coal is looking more and more like asbestos and tobacco, the 1st world rejects it, the sellers just move to marketing it in the 3rd world. Tobacco came from 3rd World countries and still does.
bexrbetter Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 I'll be lunching with Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop today, any messages you want passed on .....
Methusala Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Tell hwer that she is a very pale flicker against the late and great Gough and no more so when compared to Julia
Marty_d Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 I'll be lunching with Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop today, any messages you want passed on ..... Sure! Tell her to bring back the carbon tax, secular counsellors in schools, make the legislation around the metadata retention bill solid so it can never be used in a civil case, ditch their stupid paid parental leave scheme, admit that "direct action" is a joke, stop taking political donations from big business, grow up and stop blaming Labor for everything, fire George Brandis for incompetence, Mathias Cormann for bad acting and Tony Abbott for being Tony Abbott. (Replace him with someone the populace actually likes, like Malcolm Turnbull). Failing all that, at least get under the table and make her smile for once in her life, her face is sour enough to turn milk.
Marty_d Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Jeez, I thought that otherwise intelligent people arguing against science and reason, was limited to the "atheist knowledge" thread.
Guest Captain1 Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Tell hwer that she is a very pale flicker against the late and great Gough and no more so when compared to Julia So you have fallen for the rewrite of history around the Gough mythmaking, have you Meths? He gave women the vote, he discovered the origins of the species, he invented penicillin, he defeated Adolph Hitler single handedly ............. but what is the real truth? He did some ground breaking good stuff but he sent the country broke and was decisively tipped out by the Aussie people. And Julia Gillard will be seen as one of Australia's greatest Prime Ministers ......... by her mum and her latest live in squeeze.
Guest Captain1 Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 They can move to the lands freed up by ice recession, see how nature retains a balance We are ready for 'em. Turbo and I have bought most of King George Island and have lodged a DA for a 500 Bure/Beachhouse eco-development (Phase 1). The penguins have been relocated and a small coal fired power station is already approved and under construction. The views will be spectacular once the icebergs bugger off.
Old Koreelah Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 So you have fallen for the rewrite of history around the Gough mythmaking, have you Meths? ... Why do some people have to be so negative? We know his faults, and so did he. He even turned them into humour. (What amazes me is that his extensive war service was barely mentioned, and never used to his advantage.) Why is it OK for right-wing political leaders to take bribes (even if only on behalf of the party) and exploit every loophole in their travel allowance, but if a Labour leader of impeccable integrity doesn't balance the books he is pilloried down thru the ages? Churchill left Britain with a debt they are still paying off, but he is remembered for saving the country. Whitlam changed the course of Australia and run up some debts along the way. It could be argued that his Chinese diplomacy laid the foundation for our current wealth. Noel Pearson's speech said it all; let the man rest in peace. I was never a fan of Gillard, but any rational analysis of her leadership would consider her a very successful PM. She formed a minority government and managed to pass an impressive amount of legislation, all amidst the most vile and reprehensible hate campaign from the Coalition side. Compare that to the woeful record of the current government; even the business community is losing faith in them.
turboplanner Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Why is it OK for right-wing political leaders to take bribes I'm quite encouraged to see you coming down from accusations that leaders are murderers, to just criminals, but you need some beyond doubt evidence, so let's hear it.

Compare that to the woeful record of the current government; even the business community is losing faith in them. OK. Read my comment again. I reckon I gave Whitlam suitable credit where it was due. The only thing I missed is that he was rejected by the Aussie electorate twice ........... and for Malcolm Fraser of all the landed gentry lightweight silver-tails. That says volumes about how bad the population thought Whitlam was at that time. My main comment was addressed at the recent crass push by Labour and other flunkies to rewrite history once Whitlam passed away. Re your 2nd para above, it is fascinating how 2 people can see things so differently. IMO, Gillard, Swan and Garret were a disaster for this country, again just chucking money at issues. Money that will take a decade or more to get back into the national coffers. The Schools Sheds program was mismanaged and there were about 4 layers of rip-off with each layer adding a margin to the below layer's rip-off. The Kill Kids Pink Bat program was a poorly conceived feel-good mismanaged disaster. Nobody in the business community with whom I mix is unhappy with the Fed Govt. Where you and I may agree, however, is that the Aussie predominately lawyer based "Political Class", be they Labour or LCP, are all tarred with the same brush and have let the country down. In my State the Labour polys are still leading the LCP in the corruption race.
dazza 38 Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 I'll be lunching with Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop today, any messages you want passed on ..... Yes, she is dong a great job.
fly_tornado Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Yes, she is dong a great job. I would like to know how much she paid the Indonesians to stop the boats? I have heard estimates of around $50M a boat.
dazza 38 Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 I would like to know how much she paid the Indonesians to stop the boats? I have heard estimates of around $50M a boat. Well that is a better out come even if it was true which I doubt. Than the Labor policy which saw at least 300 people ( probably more like a thousand) drown at sea. Hey
facthunter Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Seeing the LNP thwarted every proposal of the previous government to do something a bit more acceptable than what we have now, do you see their hands as being clean?. Making this matter an issue for political gain is a disgrace . The current situation runs the chance of causing large problems for us. Nev
fly_tornado Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Gazza don't those people die under ISIS's murderous rule if they can't find a safe haven? Dead is dead.
fly_tornado Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Gazza we already spending $1.2B a year running those concentration camps on Nauru and Manus Island. That $50M a boat figure is semi confirmed by budget briefings
Methusala Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Oh, how well the current govt is doing in controlling the "Budget Emergency", HawHawHaw! They have done nothing but add to the current account deficit. Anyone here care to remember that one of their first actions was to reinstate the "BMW's for executives" rort which allowed privileged people to "salary sacrifice" (what an evil misnomer) to cover lease payments on their luxury cars at the ordinary (non-privileged) tax payers' expense. They have destroyed promising industries and the major technological innovator (ie the motor industry) for effective savings that amount to pocket change. Compare this to the money laid on to polluters and upper middle class mothers-to be. You deniers are certainly steeped in denial. Regards, Don PS: If you wish to urge me to "keep up", please trot out a more accurate line of arguments to support your case. Talk about 3rd rate debaters.
