You missed the elephant in the room: Morrison's RobDebt fiasco has been swept under the carpet.

Mention Peter Garrett and all most people can recall is the Pink Batts controversy; a couple of young blokes lost their lives (a tragedy for sure) but thousands of people got jobs, heaps of people got their homes insulated, cutting energy costs and the Labor government kept Australia out of recession- unique amoung advanced economies. Remember the atrocious bollocking they copped from the Murdoch press? They've been pretty quiet about the LNP's massive stuff-ups!

 

Meanwhile, Morrison's massive RoboDebt mess achieved nothing, cost hundreds of millions and the lives of a couple of thousand people!

The real problem is the two party system.

Just take the pink batts  controversy, brought up by Old Koreelah. There was nothing wrong with the idea. It was overseen by bureaucrats, who allowed anyone to get into the money chain. So as always happens when government money is splashed around, the greedy ones feed at the trough. The deaths were caused by incompetence of the contractors, not the government, but it was lovely propaganda for the Libs and Nats.

Now we have Covid and the ultimate responsibility with our borders and immigration lays with the federal government, who should have had oversight of who enters the country by sea, or air for that matter. They did not do the job and have also managed to con everyone into thinking it was the NSW government that let us down. They did but not on their own.

The Victorian Premier wants 12 months of state of disaster. He doesn't stop to see why they have the problem because the finger points at him and giving him 12 months more to stuff it up further would be stupid.

The Queensland Parliament has been dissolved and the election campaign started for the October 31st. election. It will be a test of how much influence the pandemic has had on the election outcome. Before the virus hit, the Government was in a losing position in the polls, but according to latest polls is now leading the opposition 52% to 48% on a two party preferred basis. The Premier's personal approval rating has risen from 29% to 57% and as preferred Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk leads what's her name by 48% to 22%.

 

With the Government leading in the polls, it's not done and dusted as they only have a two seat majority. The LNP need to win nine extra seats to govern with a majority. There certainly doesn't seem to be any public mood to deliver a landslide win to them so the outcome will probably be a Labor win or minority government by either side. Cross bench seats are Greens 1, Katter Party 3, One nation 1, North Queensland First 1 and Independent 1.

Having seen and heard Deb Freclington, the LNP leader over the last six months, and also watching what the other LNP pollies say, I consider the LNP to be the poorest of a poor bunch. I don't know why but they never seem to have a good leader and the only time they got a good win was with a rebel leading them.

Pre-poll voting starts in Queensland on Monday. Interesting to listen to numbers cruncher Antony Green on the radio. He said he's expecting it to be close, but also expecting a result on the night, ie: a government with a majority.  He wasn't giving much away, but from his comments he could only be expecting a government win or the LNP to get their nine extra seats required. At this stage the LNP seem to be the only ones that think they can take nine seats. It will be an interesting election night with a government with only two seats majority and a heap of marginal seats on both sides.

 

It was notable that after months of slamming the government over border closures and urging it to open everything up, the opposition leader has now stated full support for the closures and for that of the Chief Medical Officer's decisions. They must have finally figured out that they were out of step with majority public opinion.

Sco Mo is up here supporting Deb Freclington, but he seems to be not helping much. His plane broke down so he had to cancel a govt. meeting in Canberra. That makes me wonder how competent his government is. Do they not have another lane available and if not, what condition is our RAAF in. Waiting for spares from China?

There also seems to be a cloud over the LNP leader concerning financial matters, she may have committed a crime. That doesn't look good.

In the meantime Anastasia has kept us all safe from Covid 19, or at least given us that impression, especially compared to the Vic and NSW leaders. How can she go wrong?

Yes, it's looking a lot better for the Government than it is for the LNP. Latest polls out put Labor ahead of the LNP at 52% to 48% 2PP. Newspoll gives the Premier a 76 per cent approval rating for her government's management of the coronavirus. Also a personal approval rating of 63% compared to 37% for the opposition leader. And that's after a big boost in figures for Frecklington since the campaign began. Before that she was in the mid twenties on personal approval.

 

The importance of those polls is that half of Queensland voters are expected to vote early, starting Monday. So even with two weeks to go until polling day, the current opinion polls will reflect how a lot of people will vote. Someone recently told me that the Premier is a moron and has to go. If that's correct and she wins another term, that makes 10 years that a moron has kept the LNP from government. So what does that make the LNP if a moron can continuously beat them?

We had a master of the art of nasty politics as a pm . Tony Abbott. I reckon he would have been ok except that he saw  his job in those negative terms Jerry has explained.

Well we have sent him to England now. I hope he does a better job there.

Last I heard of Tony Abbot he was back in Aus and in strife for riding his bike when he should have been in quarantine or at least not in that area.

Today Scomo is going to find out what the states have been doing about quarantine, which is really a federal government responsibility which he has avoided doing anything about.

I just hope he does call an early election, especially as today we were told our federal member was not standing again and our state member will stand in the electorate. Both are useless, but a new candidate will be less likely to succeed than a sitting member.

Looking back at our governments handling of Covid, they have nothing to be proud of. They let in the Ruby Princess and then could not sort out how Aussies should return from overseas, but they seemed to be able to let in foreigners.
