johnm Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 ........................... I don't know if I am a good driver or not ................... but I swear there are about 2 to 3 % of drivers that think they are driving dodgem cars at the local show - only they find it much more fun to drive the same on public roads
facthunter Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 I'm sure they learn on Playstation where there's no real blood. Nev
Dafydd Llewellyn Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Has it ever crossed your mind that that you might not know everything? Oh, often - my kids point it out at every opportunity - but I DO know I don't much like sharing the road with people like you. Fortunately, they are in a minority. I found driving in Europe quite a revelation; especially in Paris. There, nobody, but nobody, behaves the way you describe yourself as driving; the ones who did have evidently all been killed.

There, nobody, but nobody, behaves the way you describe yourself as driving; the ones who did have evidently all been killed. Something has been lost in the translation either that or you choose to read into it what you want. I avoided a bike that swerved in front of me when there was no time to brake. I am not your problem on the road.
Dafydd Llewellyn Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 I don't want to escalate this into WW3; however, I learned early in my driving history, that children, cyclists, horses etc can be counted on to move suddenly; I was driving (on L plates) quietly past a string of horses being ridden along the verge, when one of them chose to swing and rear - my car passed under its front hooves. We all, I think, have dire learning experiences, especially in our early driving days, and it's sheer luck if they do not cause an accident; but the essential thing is to learn from them. A horse can move or a bicycle rider can sprawl, up to about four metres sideways if something goes wrong, so I reached the conclusion that it pays to allow that much clearance when one passes them.
facthunter Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 I had a horse jump from a bank on the left side of the road over the car and take the drivers door handle off.. 1938 Chev. Glad it wasn't a tourer. Nev
Teckair Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 I agree about children and horses and it does apply to this cyclist as well. I don't know why he did what he did but he certainly put himself in danger and I was relieved with being able to avoid him.
facthunter Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Could have easily been a bit mentally disturbed. A physical contest between a car and a pushbike is a fool idea, for the pushbike. Nev
Teckair Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 If you were there you would think that he tried to get hit by a car, years ago I knew this character that made a habit of falling over in supermarkets and then tried to sue them.
M61A1 Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Saw more of these clowns this morning.....a pack of them, a narrow county road, 3 and 4 abreast on blind corners. Then later on, one doing it right....going where he needed, using only the space he needed. I would also mention the hypocrisy of the "environmentally friendly" cyclists, the same ones littering the roads around here, discarding their drink bottles.
facthunter Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Cyclists BAD .... CAR Drivers don't chuck stuff out?. Drive up the STURT Highway, and look along the edges of the road. If the plastic is the modern stuff it won't last long in the sun. I don't condone anyone chucking their rubbish and expecting someone else to clean up after them Cigarette buts are one of the worst things in drainage systems, rivers and lakes. Nev

Nev I'm not suggesting car drivers don't chuck stuff out their windows, it makes me see red anytime I see something thrown out a vehicle window. What I'm talking about is the "I'm an environmentally friendly cyclist" thing, I witnessed a few weeks ago, then tossing his drink bottle off into the grass. Damn right about smoke butts, got hot, dry, windy conditions, and still the morons throw them out the window. The last place I lived in had about 100m of road frontage, I used to pick up about two full shopping bags of rubbish every week from filthy scum throwing their takeaway and bottle-o empties out.
pmccarthy Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 When I was a kid riding two abreast was illegal. The cops would pull you up. Good rule, should still be enforced.
Teckair Posted November 2, 2014 Author Posted November 2, 2014 When I was a kid riding two abreast was illegal. The cops would pull you up. Good rule, should still be enforced. I thought it still is illegal.
M61A1 Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 I thought it still is illegal. No, unfortunately. In QLD they are legally entitled to block as much traffic as they like. The new ads on the telly though, suggest that even though they are entitled, they should be considerate. Would've thought it much more practical to legislate single file unless overtaking.
Ultralights Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 so, not as entitled as a car driver doing 70 kph on a 100kph stretch of single lane highway?

turboplanner Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 In Victoria cycling deaths and injuries have now reached a significant factor in the annual road toll, and Victoria Police started a blitz on failure to obey traffic signals and fined heaps. There's now a discussion about registering bikes, where the bike riders are arguing they shouldn't have to pay when they already pay with their car registration (we as motorists have to pay for second cars, trailers etc), and even more controversial for them, there is a proposal for them to have points taken off their driver licence.
Bikky Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 How can you legislate intelligence? Do the wrong thing and die is fine by me.
M61A1 Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 so, not as entitled as a car driver doing 70 kph on a 100kph stretch of single lane highway? A car driver around here, doing 70 in a 100 zone is going to wear some abuse ( for being an inconsiderate prick), so what's your point? They're entitled, yes, but It's certainly not comsiderate
M61A1 Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 http://www.wired.com/2014/11/9-things-drivers-need-stop-saying-bikes-vs-cars-debate/?mbid=social_fb Had a read, seems to completely miss the point.Yes there are inconsiderate pricks in both camps, but this thread is about inconsiderate cyclists. Why not start a thread about inconsiderate motorists, I have plenty to say about them a well.
turboplanner Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 How can you legislate intelligence? Do the wrong thing and die is fine by me. Looking at the road toll for Victoria: Highest 1970: 1061 Lowest 2013: 243 Biggest factors: Seat Belt legislation, Blood Alcohol Legislation, Vehicle design legislation 2014 fatalities year to date for 2014 Bicyclist: 9 Driver: 103 Passenger: 43 Motor cyclist: 23 Pedestrian: 40
Guest ozzie Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Problem solved or will be shortly. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/north-shore/smart-hat-could-be-the-answer-to-cyclist-registration-councillor-says/story-fngr8h9d-1227121392639?nk=fd1de2381501d096f83281e69974e53c
Ultralights Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 please introduce cyclist rego, i cant wait to cycle right down the middle of the road on my way to work..... i will be paying, so its my road as well... /end sarcasm even though i pay income tax, and rego on 2 cars already.... so technically, i will pay more tax towards the roads than motorists.... whoohooo! i am entitled to more road when on my pushbike! (dont forget, in NSW, road funding comes from consolidated revenue, so every taxpayer pays for the roads... regardless if they own a car or not)
M61A1 Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Problem solved or will be shortly.http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/north-shore/smart-hat-could-be-the-answer-to-cyclist-registration-councillor-says/story-fngr8h9d-1227121392639?nk=fd1de2381501d096f83281e69974e53c There never was a problem, this is just someone trying to create a market. If we as a nation are stupid enough to force registration of cyclists, then where does it end? strollers? pedestrians have to do prerequisite training before being allowed on the footpath? There are things that should remain freedoms. The very last thing we need in this country is more restrictions on our freedoms. If this idiocy becomes enforced, the considerate cyclists have every right to despise the inconsiderate ones, and the clowns who thought it a good idea to make the legislation.
