Beginning with a valid 9 letter word, delete 1 letter to form a valid 8 letter word.

 

Delete another letter to create another valid word. Repeat removing one letter at a time, each time creating a valid word, until you reach 1 letter, which is a valid word.

Here's a small  letter example, if "E" was a valid word.

Start with Wet

Remove the 't', Wet, you get 'We"
