red750 Posted November 15, 2023 Author Posted November 15, 2023 Correct answer is 22. 2 hours ago, onetrack said: 72 That's four syllables. (Unless you pronounce it Sev'ny two. 1 1
red750 Posted November 15, 2023 Author Posted November 15, 2023 While some of these may not seem that difficult, remember that on the show you only get 30 seconds to think about it and lock in your answer, and the host is prattling on some trivial nonsense the whole time to confuse you. Only one of these letters has an even-numbered position in the English alphabet. Which is it? M S I Y K T C U G
onetrack Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Well, 72 is 3 syllables to me - Seven-tee-two. But yes, the experts claim it's Sev-en-tee-two. But I say "Seventy", Seven-Tee, not Sev-En-Tee". 1
red750 Posted November 15, 2023 Author Posted November 15, 2023 This one is a bit more of a brain twister. While the contestants were trying to work it out, the compere was rambling on about Sully landing the Airbus in the Hudson. Addie and Sully share a birthday. If Addie is 12 and is three times older than Sully, how old will Sully be when Addie is double his age?

red750 Posted November 15, 2023 Author Posted November 15, 2023 While you are on a roll, ttry this one.. What four letter word would complete this sentence to make it mathematically correct? THIS SENTENCE INCLUDES **** E’s AND NOT A SINGLE ONE MORE. 30 seconds with distracting prattle.
red750 Posted November 15, 2023 Author Posted November 15, 2023 Only 1% of the 1000 average Australians surveyed got this right. That makes it the 1%, and thus the top question. Based only on what you can see in front of you, what are the next two letters in this sequence? B O O W Y C S __ __
red750 Posted November 16, 2023 Author Posted November 16, 2023 Come on, this question earned two people $49,500 each.
pmccarthy Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 1% of 1000 Australians is ten. How come only two got the prize?
red750 Posted November 16, 2023 Author Posted November 16, 2023 The survey of 1000 is done before the program is put together to determine the difficulty of the questions, which range from solved by 90% down to 1 %. Then, 100 contestants are placed in the studio, and allocated $1000 each. Starting with the 90% question, each question is put to the contestants who are given 30 seconds to lock their answer in on a keyboard. Each time someone gets an answer wrong, they are eliminated from the game and their $1000 goes into the prize pot. At the 50% question, those remaining are offered the opportunity of taking their $1000 and leaving. In this instance, only 1 person took their money and left. The others continued to play. By the time they got to the 1% question, only 2 were left in the game. Including their $1000 each, the prize pot stood at $99,000 (original $100,000 minus the guy who took his $1000 and left.) The remaining two were then offered the opportunity to take $10,000 and leave, or face the 1% question. They both decided to stay, and both got the answer correct. Therefore, they shared the prize pot.
pmccarthy Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 Thanks, I didn’t really expect an answer! But I am still puzzling over the question. Hope someone can solve it.
red750 Posted November 16, 2023 Author Posted November 16, 2023 The letters are the first letter of each word in the question, so the next two are I & F B O O W Y C S __ __ Based only on what you can see in front of you, 1
pmccarthy Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 One approach gives me TS. The other finds a pattern in the anagram of COWBOYS but I can’t think of how that leads to an answer. I am trying!

red750 Posted November 16, 2023 Author Posted November 16, 2023 OK. Now you have an idea of how the question writers think, try this one. What word is coded into this sequence of dates? 4th of September 2nd of November 1st of December 6th of February 3rd of May 1
red750 Posted November 17, 2023 Author Posted November 17, 2023 4th of September 2nd of November 1st of December 6th of February 3rd of May
pmccarthy Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 This isn't actually a quiz question, but who can give the next two letters? BBROYGBV
onetrack Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 GW "Big Boys Race Our Young Girls But Violet Generally Wins".
