I think there are differences between Biden and Trump when it comes to gaffes. There is no doubt that Biden is not as sharp as he was back when he was VP.  It does happen to us all.  Trump does seem to try to say that he "interposed" Nikki Haley with Nancy Pelosi. Hilarious for two reasons, firstly what is the point, and how is this political genius secondly he clearly does not know what interpose means.

Another key difference is that as far as I can see Biden takes advice from those around him whereas Trump seemingly does not.

Having said that it seems absurd that crusty old blokes are running the show.   As a 62-year-old I think that many issues are not so much for me to decide but are more for those who will live with the consequences good and bad.

Young people think they are invincible like we did when we were young.. Funny, at about 18 I though man's biggest problem was getting good government  and a good education. . Nev

The Democrats have a big problem. At the debate, poor old Joe looked like he should be in aged care. I only saw cherry picked highlights, but most of the time he was staring into space with his mouth open. Obviously he was trying to understand Trump speaking (not an easy task) but he was really struggling. My first thought was that they had Joe medicated.

The format was always going to be a disaster for Joe with no notes allowed or any contact with their respective teams. They could have note paper to write things down, but no pre-written notes allowed. One good thing was the mute button so only the candidate who's turn it was had a live microphone. Some critics of the debate are saying it was elder abuse to allow Joe to go through that. It wasn't a good look.

I sometimes wonder whether if any of these candidate debates make any real difference to the electoral outcome. I doubt many of them would look forward to having to do it.

Apparently he had the flu and they always pick out the frames that make him look as bad as possible Trump didn't answer any question asked of him. and just repeated the same lies.  The whole thing was  a  disaster.  Nev

I wonder if they'll have any more debates. They seem a bit pointless when you have Trump dodging every question with his usual waffle.

It would have been obvious to the 50 million viewers that Trump’s torrent of lies and half truths easily overwhelmed Joe’s very feeble performance. The Democrats are now talking about replacing him but it’s probably a bit late in the day, especially if Joe doesn’t want to step aside, which is likely. Bad as it was, it will be interesting to see if it makes much difference to the opinion polls in the next few weeks. Joe will probably survive unless there’s a really big swing, but I’m sure yesterday’s performance  have Western leaders around the world feeling very worried.

The CNN people arranging that fiasco told Trump he didn't HAVE to answer any questions but could use the time anyway he wished. What sort of MAD arrangement was that?  No Fact checking either. I think Joe was stunned at what was happening when Trump turned it into a face pulling Circus where HE could say anything about The Democrats and not be held to account.   Nev

Intelligent people can see through Trump. He's all piss and wind, but has the theatrics to convince the majority of the audience. He's not getting a lot of financial backing from the megarich who remain faithful to Republican Party. His campaign money is coming from the naive at the lower ends of the ladder. You could say his campaign's might rests on the widow's mite.

An ex-Navy Seal friend of mine, who would naturally vote conservative said he couldn't vote Hillary in 2016 because she maide some disparaging comment about the armed forces. When I pointed out the number of disparaging comments he has made about the armed forces including calling them suckers and losers, he seems to gloss over it. As he is a part owner of a business that is successful, I guess that figures more in his thinking, because, there is no other answer to it; unless the press is so biased towards Republicans in the US that they don't get told the vast majority of stuff.

I was listening to a US election journo on the radio and he was saying this is the election between two people very few really want for president. Also, he was saying the debates don't directly impact the election, but the snippets that circulate on social media do, as they play to the echo chambers the swinging voters, who are unlikely to be that interested in politics, hang out in. Apparently, the number of voters who can swing the election is in the low hundreds of thousands!

So, yes, anyone with a smidgeon of intelligence can see through lies, but are they (as most of us are) so wedded to inherent bias, that it doesn't matter? It is likely only the Democratic faithful would have cared about the after debate speech.

I personally would take Joe on his death bed to run the country over Trump and the current crop of the more publicised Republicans. Joe also has a stutter, which wreaks havoc on his public performances, but, the clip below that is posted for comedic value, but is a very, very sad indictment of the state of democracy in arguably the most important single country in the western world:

This is America. The Presidents in the U.S. have been provided by the biggest levels of corporate funding that money can buy. This is also sometimes known as "corporate governance".

Is there NO Democrat suitable?

The most likely is Gavin Newsom, governor of California.

Is that the definition of the fabled 'deep state'?

The US financial media is reporting that the US economy is the strongest now than since "before most of us were born". Corporate profits are up. Employment is up. Investment is up. What's going wrong with your mate's business?

Some of the Maga mob were asked if they would vote for trump if he became a dictator and they said YES. Then the system they have is considered a very flawed democracy that has been manipulated by the wealthy to maintain their influence and control. The whole electoral college process to select the President could over rule the voters. As it is Trump lost the popular vote in 2016 when he got in, was a long way behind in 2020 and who knows where this year. Joe came out with a few choice words after the debate debacle & hopefully there are enough intelligent Americans to keep the orange nutter out, this time for good..

Joe has had a stuttering problem all his life.   Trump only has a few words in his vocabulary. He's basically illiterate as well as a Lieing Vain bully who has no limits to his unpredictability. The GOP. has a hell of a lot to answer for..   Nev
