old man emu Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Here's something that brings joy to my heart. The happy marriage of physics and alcohol. Who put the bomp in the bomp bah bomp bah bomp Who put the ram in the rama lama ding dong Who put the bop in the bop shoo bop shoo bop Who put the dip in the dip da dip da dip Who put the pop in the champagne top? Have you ever wondered about how you get the "pop" when the cork comes out of a bottle of sparkling wine in the style of Champagne (appeasement to the EU)? This video show what happens when the cork escapes from a bottle of this type of wine, and shows how the frequency of the sound can be calculated. The presenters skip over the maths, so the video is not boring, but the experiments are fun. Spoiler alert: several bottles were opened during the course of these experiments, but were not consumed. 1 1
octave Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Ah Matt Parker and Helen Czerski, I went to a lecture at an event in Melbourne called cosmic shambles. Matt parker used a pendulum to calculate Pi the bob on the pendulum was an actual meat pie. The science of bubbles is also more interesting than it sounds. https://cosmicshambles.com/events/melbourne
