Looks like Fox decided to settle out of court and pay Dominion around USD$787m... While this is a win for Dominion and their venture capital owner, it is a loss to public justice as now the hearing will not happen and the evidence, which appears to have been quite damning, will not be aired.  Another case of if you have money, you can escape justice.

Can't imagine the share holders will be that amused. Newscorpse faces other challenges along similar lines. It hasn't come out as well as it would have under cross examination but it's CLEAR the management is less responsible in it's conduct than could be desired when  such an amount is negotiated to settle it. The option was always there and stressed by the Judge. I'm not suggesting there's anything improper in that.  Nev

I thought Dominion wqere after 1.6bn.. so a little more than a 25% reduction (https://www.npr.org/2023/04/14/1169858006/the-math-behind-dominion-voting-systems-1-6-billion-lawsuit-against-fox-news) . I have read in the media that a lot of the legal experts were predicting that they were likely to have won the case itself. In teh US, civil cases are heard by a judge and jury (not so, generally, in the UK, except for defamation). I think they may have settled because the way a jury will go is totally unpredictable...  Bird in the had, etc...

You don’t have to, Nev. Wherever you go- waiting rooms, foyers of businesses, train stations… -copies of the Daily Terrograph are laying there like snakes, ready to lower the quality of public knowledge.

OK I reckon the Terrorgraph is about the worst and the Herald Sun in Vic close behind. I think the Merde ock's woes are just beginning. There are other cases pending and the shareholders are getting testy at the loss of reputation (ha Ha). Getting found out I mean. Like when it costs dollars. Up till then It's just fine. There's nothing new about the way they have always done things. Nev

For OVER ONE HUNDRED YEARS the family has been manipulating democracy; first in Australia, then recently they moved to the big league.
The attempted coup in Washington might have been their crowning achievement.

Hopefully to be followed by their downfall.

Someone with a shred of integrity. Who  cares? The celebration will go on  for ages. There should be a limit to the damage any one individual can be responsible for.  Nev

The depressing thought is........

Who or what would fill the ensuing vacuum?

Would be hard to find anyone more cynical, transactional and ruthless than Murdoch is, so couldn’t be much worse. Probably lots of Qanon type fringe groups, but they wouldn’t have Murdoch’s clout.

$2-80 per day for the H-S. Overpriced when it was 50c.
