Just overturned the right to abortion. Got to keep up the supply of targets for mass school shooters.

Also looking to outlaw the right to pevent conception. Ban the pill, ban condoms. Even the unconceived have a right to be shot.

Trump says the ban on abortion is the best thing that has happened in years. All due to him delivering what he promised. What a dickhead.

From all the reports we get about trump and America it is obvious that Trump is insane and the Republican party were so enamoured with him that they did nothing about it. Mike Pence is reported to have been targeted by Trump, but he should have declared Trump incapable of holding office before the election in 2020.

The Republican party are holding America back and making a mockery of their system of so called democracy. Or maybe it is just that the USA is full of idiots who are incapable of making democracy work. Sadly our country is showing similar symptoms. Those who have voted along party lines since their parents told them to and who cannot see what is happening.

America’s democracy faces a perfect storm of adversity: mindless faith in ancient holy books (including their Constitution), a shallow education system and boundless opportunities for massive corruption of politicians.

On top of that toxic mix, a huge proportion of the population has had Covid. Millions are probably affected by LongCovid, which further diminishes their cognitive function.

This is the wagon Australia has hitched our future to…

I forgot to include what is perhaps the greatest danger to their democracy: Rupert Murdoch’s evil media empire.

"god help America"  ?

The more I watch the news, the more I conclude that either god isn't very interested in helping America, or maybe she is really pissed off with the whole lot of them.

America looks to me rather similar to Afghanistan. Full of religious fanatics who want to force their beliefs on the rest of us. The only difference is that in America it is Christianity and in Afghanistan it is the Muslim religion. Both of them are flawed.

I think it helps with coming to an understanding of the "American Patriot", extreme right-wing, Republican form of belief systems, by remembering that the largest part of America was founded by Puritans, who left England to start a new life in America.

Now, I like to take the view that these Puritans were essentially kicked out of England, simply because they wanted to dominate everyone they came into contact with and especially they wanted to dominate their mores and lifestyle. Their vicious persecution of people they believed were "decadent", or following the wrong religious belief, was a primary feature of their religion.

These Puritans were viewed in England as being totally wrong in their interpretation of Biblical texts and instruction. And the English that essentially kicked them out in 1620, were right.

Thus, America ended up with this misguided, domineering, obsessively religious group setting up a colony built strictly upon their vicious, unfeeling, and essentially wrong views and interpretation of Christianity.

They really are the most "un-Christian" of all the groups who believe in God - and their sheer nastiness and viciousness culminated in the Salem Witch Trials. These trials have to be the worst example of obsessive religionists running rampant and ruining peoples lives - all in the name of religious control.

Throughout history, religious control has been practised and refined until organisations such as the Catholic Church dominated every single minute of peoples lives.

The controlling religionists determined whether people got an education or not, determined whether they got a job or not, determined whether they went to jail or not - and even determined whether they lived or died - basically creating a system of religion and Govt combined, that makes Fundamentalist Islamic control look good.

On that basis, these Fundamentalist God-botherers who claim to be "doing Gods work", need to be called out at every opportunity, and their obsessive, controlling methods and basically wrong religious beliefs exposed for the falsification of Biblical teachings, that they really are.

True Biblical teachings are that we alone are totally responsible for our decisions, behaviour, beliefs, mores and lifestyle - and we alone have to stand in judgement on Judgement Day, with God using the same judgement methods and beliefs, in our judgement, as we used on other people. "As ye judge, so shall ye be judged".

Judgement Day will be an interesting time for the Puritans and the current crop of American God-botherers who insist on the ruination of other people lives, simply because of their highly erroneous belief systems.

Give UP Power over others? They think they are onto a good thing.. It  wasn't that long ago women didn't get to vote here. Most religions are Patriarchal (and can't cope with SEX.) even though all complex life forms do it and it's ALL done by intelligent design, of course. Can't have anything happening by random chance. The Protestant Work Ethic is supposed to be the driving force in the Land of Opportunity. How come the hard yakka is done by Mexican Catholics, refugee Jews and assorted Moslems, Hindus and such?

It was/is the ancestral memory of Puritanism during the days of the British Empire that has resulted in the racism towards the people that the Empire swallowed and which we are struggling now to alter our inherited biases away from.

(Sorry, if I don't end with a preposition, it doesn't read conversationally.)

That's alright, OME.

None of your readers are grammar police.

Anyway. The foregoing posts confirm that cultural evolution is a very very slow process. And religion seems to offer an outlet for some really 'interesting' psychosis. Not so much for the average followers, but it is repeatedly a vehicle used by power hungry exploiters.

So is trying to pick up an undercover vice cop.

There's another thing that sucks about the USA. In every other Western country, you can go to a place of social gathering and try to score. Provided the age rules are not broken, and is seems in the early stages of the process that consent will be forthcoming, there is no criminal offence. But in the USA, that bulge better be a gun in your pocket, or the Vice Squad will ruin your night.
