Yenn Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 Why do you say China will start a war. When was the last war China started? How many wars has USA started since then.? It will be USA that starts the next war and no doubt we will be there begging to be in it. 1 1 1

pmccarthy Posted September 21, 2021 Author Posted September 21, 2021 Xi has said he will take Taiwan before 2050, by force if necessary. Remember Hitler and the Sudetenland and subsequent? There are many parallels between China today and Germany in the 1930s. We should not dismiss them. 3
Old Koreelah Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 One of the parallels is that, like Nazi Germany, China has spent up large and has an unsustainable debt. Hitler invaded his neighbours and grabbed their foreign reserves to postpone national bankruptcy. Taiwan is a tempting prize, with large foreign reserves and is an industrial and technology powerhouse; it makes most of the world’s chips. All the new emperor needs now is the sort of appeasement that encouraged Hitler to invade his neighbours. 1 1
facthunter Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 So is this just another bottom of the Harbour scheme? Normally we are not allowed to talk abut "on water" matters Nev 2 1 1

Problem they have with invading Taiwan is they will defend themselves and the chinks will have to wipe them out, Taiwan will retaliate on the mainland and cause huge damage, which will really upset the people. The outcome of that will be no foreign reserves or technological powerhouse as it will all be rubble. Doubt very much any country will allow china to get its hands on Taiwan assets and reserves they hold, so it will defeat the purpose and they will have a greatly diminished war machine as the yanks will defend Taiwan with missiles and they will come out of the blue before china realises it's under attack. Of course we are dealing with a deranged despot in Xing, so who knows what he will do. Despots are very dedicated psychopaths and can never see anything but themselves, so who knows what will eventuate. But it will happen, Xing like Putin only survive by boosting their egos, so they will start a war some time soon to take the pressure of their own collapsing societies. 1
Yenn Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Barnaby, who is now acting PM has lost no time in starting the electioneering. He has stated that the enemies we have are,Iran, China and Russia. Surely he has missed out North Korea. Maybe he wasn't thinking, as usual. Why would Iran target us? I can think of no reason at all. We are not pushing the Israeli barrow are we? Who was the first person in USA that Scumbag had a meeting with. I heard it was Robert Thomson. If you haven't heard of him, he is the CEO of Murdoch's Newsgroup. Biden seems to think that the three most important items to be discussed with other leaders are, handling the corona virus pandemic, climate change and cyber threats. no mention of China. Europe and the USA seem to be slipping apart, so Australia will fill the gap. 1 1
nomadpete Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 I disagree Yen that AUS will fill any gap. Asus will fall between any gap there, because we are small fish in those arguments 1 3
Marty_d Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 The words "Barnaby" and "acting PM" still make me shudder and should never be used together. The only point of agreement I have with Barnaby is that Julian Assange should be brought home (something that SfM could have brought up with his good buddies the other AUKUS leaders...) In everything else The Beetroot has several kangaroos loose in the top paddock. 2 2
pmccarthy Posted September 23, 2021 Author Posted September 23, 2021 Acting is the operative word. 1 1
old man emu Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 How long has this submarine debacle been going on? Nicely covered up by COVID. The Australian Military must think that the Australian taxpayer is simply a milch cow from whom the Military can draw unlimited funds to buy the latest toys from the USA Military-Industrial complex. Why can't the Military be like the rest of us who know that you can get stuff cheaper from China?
facthunter Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 Any SUB they get from China would have a lot of BUGS in it. I like crikeys cartoon" Only subs built in the submarine region of France can use the name submarine". Nev 1 1
Yenn Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 Don't blame the military. When the replacement of the Collins class subs started the government decided it wanted diesel, not nuclear. The French had nuclear subs and I think the contract was for us to get them, but the propulsion system had to be modified to diesel. Remember at the time that Japan and one of the Scandinavian countries were a bit put out by the way the government went about the process of working out who would supply. Blind Freddy could see that diesel subs are really stone age equipment so why did our government go that way. Then having done that they are telling the french one day that the contract is all good and next day they are cancelling it. I wonder when the opposition was advised that there was going to be a change. Did they have prior knowledge and agree to go along with it? How could so big a decision be made in a matter of hours and was the decision a democratic one? My guess is that it was a spur of the moment thought of Scumbag and that all he has to do is feed the fear syndrome in the lead up to the next election and he will look so good that we all forget the poor decision making that has been the highlight of his term as PM. 1 2
facthunter Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 Maybe there were too many fingers in the Pie with the deal of the century? BIG cost blowout and delays. Nev 1

There was so much trouble round the french boats and they hadn't decided on the final design and costs were already rising rapidly. My guess is there's been talk between the UK/US/AUS navies saying the best option would be nukes for Aus, that turned into a feasibility and tactical study. From there it would be a matter of putting the suggestion and support for it to the bureaucrats and pollies. There's been lots of sabre rattling recently in our direction, only complete fools would disregard the military threats China has made against us, along with the economic actions designed to ruin our economy. Problem for the chinese is we are an island and up until the last quarter of last century, pretty well self sufficient and can be again , if we had decent people running this circus. old man emu Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 Wouldn't either of the two main Parties have to consider the electoral backlash of going nuclear? The Silent Majority wouldn't give two hoots, but the Greenies who be apoplexic. Another problem is finding crews. Seems life in a Yellow Submarine is not so popular amongst Jack Tars. 1 1
facthunter Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 The US deal is fuelled for life so really we don't need to do anything about that aspect of it.. It makes it's own water and oxygen also... Who would really know least of all SCo Mo. He has a long record of half doing things but big on announcements. The perception is nothing like the reality. Jerry_Atrick Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 Sadly, there are pollies who know less than SFM... 1
old man emu Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 People should remember that you have to KISS Pauline. If you told her that there are two ways of getting a submarine to move - a propeller, or a jet of water, then you could give the example of comparing a boat with an outboard motor and a jet ski. These are things she has experienced. You could even compare a Jabiru with a Dash-8, which she would have experienced. The Naval Officer made it clear that any new machine incorporates the knowledge gained from making its predecessors. It's called "evolution". It's not "intelligent design", the theory that life, or the universe, cannot have arisen by chance and was designed and created by some intelligent entity. 1
