onetrack Posted October 8 Posted October 8 The only way the Ukraine war will end is when Putin is either overthrown in an internal coup, assassinated, or dies from natural causes or a disease. The two first reasons are more likely, simply because Putin has few real friends in his inner circle, and plenty who only see idiocy and the destruction of Russia in his plans. The longer Putin lasts, the more paranoiac he'll become. Mad dictators start to see enemies at every turn - already Putin is constantly sh*****g himself about being taken out by a suicide drone - and it may not be a Ukrainian one, either. 1
willedoo Posted October 17 Posted October 17 It's about time. Albo and Co. have done an about face on sending our retiring Abrams tanks to Ukraine. Easy to tell there's an election looming. They're perceived as a weak government and they know they've been below par on Ukraine, so they're probably hoping this will make them look decisive. Call me cynical, but I think our government's support record on Ukraine justifies it. https://breakingdefense.com/2024/10/aussies-arming-ukraine-with-almost-50-abrams-tanks-a-change-in-canberras-plans/ 1
red750 Posted October 20 Posted October 20 Putler is getting desparate. Must be running out of cannon fodder. Bringing in up to 12,000 North Korean troops from his little mate KJU. More here. 1 1
onetrack Posted October 20 Posted October 20 This stunt of NK troops turning up to fight against Ukraine must be ringing alarm bells in every Western military strategists office. It's ramping up the war to a whole new level. This should mean Ukraine can strike NK or any of its ships at any time, as the two countries are now at war. Little Fat Wun obviously sees this as a precursor to taking on SK and the U.S., and their Western Allies. 1
red750 Posted October 20 Posted October 20 I'll scratch your back in Ukraine, you scratch mine over here. Only, Putler will have nothing left to scratch with. 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted October 20 Posted October 20 Apparently part of the deal is to provide both NK and China with technical know how.. not sure how much that will help China 2
facthunter Posted October 20 Posted October 20 IF USA was not so "THING"about China they could get it to tell "Little Rocket Man" (Trumps mate) to take a sip of the cool aid . Russia has a long border with China and some disputation exists. Nev 1 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted October 23 Posted October 23 If this is real, it is quite amazing the pilot couldn't eject https://youtu.be/EzfR9UkXt2M?si=HtxljDUFe3bXBEgc
onetrack Posted October 23 Posted October 23 (edited) At 56 secs into the video, you can see two small puffs of smoke to the lower left of the doomed aircraft, this is the pilot and co-pilot ejecting. Follow the ejection smoke as it travels downwards (and to the left of the frame as the camera pans right) - and at about 1m 00sec, on the left of the screen, inside the bracketed frame, you'll see two parachutes moving slowly earthwards. Surprisingly, not everything on YooToob is true! More high-value Russian POW's to swap for Ukrainian POW's, at an exchange rate of 10 Ukrainians for 1 Russian! Edited October 23 by onetrack
facthunter Posted October 24 Posted October 24 It's becoming increasingly more difficult to get FACTS if not impossible. What a great situation to be in. Nev
nomadpete Posted October 26 Posted October 26 A Guardian new article: "Satellite images obtained by Reuters appears to confirm that the Israeli attacks hit buildings that Iran used for mixing solid fuel for ballistic missiles." Will this affect Pootens war on Ukraine? He has been sourcing Iranian drones. 1 1
onetrack Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I couldn't imagine that Putin would be particularly reliant on Iranian rocket fuel, this attack would be designed to degrade Iran's ability to lob ballistic missiles into Israel. But Putin's military is obviously reliant on Iranian military support, and the Iranians appear to have supplied plenty of the Shaheed 136 drones - which are powered by a copy of the German Limbach 550 2 stroke, 4 cyl engine, and which engine simply uses a 2 stroke petrol mix for fuel. However, anything that degrades Irans military manufacturing capabilities is good news for Ukraine. 1 1
nomadpete Posted October 27 Posted October 27 As yet it looks like russia is not using Iranian ballistic missiles or fuel. However, is it possible that some of the Isreali strikes on Iranian weapons manufacturing might also affect the Shahed manufacturing? I don't think the Isrealis would much like the drones. 1

Modern seats are a great thing. They've come a long way since the early ones. I've got an old KK-1 MiG-15 seat and the pilots wouldn't have survived an ejection like that with a KK-1. Their biggest fault was lack of a stabiliser resulting in a lot of end for end tumbling before being able to open the chute safely. With a low level inverted ejection like that, a KK-1 would have run out of sky before getting a functioning canopy. In the same period of history as the Russian KK-1 (early 50's), Martin Baker had drogue chutes for stabilisation. They had a fairly crude deployment method, but it worked and saved a lot of lives. 1
willedoo Posted October 28 Posted October 28 It makes you wonder how far the Korean troops would stretch if claimed loss figures of Russians are anything to go by. Estonia's intelligence service is saying Russian losses for October, killed and injured, could reach 40,000. It's hard to imagine such numbers but it's common to hear of battalion sized losses in one day. There's reports that the Koreans aren't highly trained or skilled. Maybe that just means they will fit in well with Russian forces. Other reports have the Koreans arriving in the Kursk region, so possibly they will be used for local defence rather than front line positions. If they go to the front line in Ukraine they might get the same treatment as the convict recruits, of which very few have survived. The main use of the prisoners has been in meat assaults where they send them forward in suicidal assaults so the regular forces can identify Ukrainian artillery positions in order to direct counter-battery fire on them. The interesting part would be the politics of wasting all the Korean troops, although Kim probably doesn't give two hoots about the troops he's sending. He'd be more interested in what he can get from putin in return. 2
red750 Posted October 28 Posted October 28 I've seen a report where the Russians have supposedly said of the Koreans, "They're hopeless, what are we going to do with them." 2

red750 Posted October 28 Posted October 28 Russian Army Loses 1,680 Soldiers in a Single Day in Ukraine The Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on October 28, 2024, that Russian combat losses in Ukraine have reached approximately 690,720 soldiers since the invasion began in February 2022, with 1,680 Russian soldiers killed in the past 24 hours alone. This update was shared on Facebook by the Ukrainian General Staff and reported by Ukrinform. In addition to personnel losses, Ukrainian Defense Forces reported that they have destroyed significant Russian military equipment over the course of the conflict. The cumulative tally includes: 9,120 tanks (+7 in the past day) 18,395 armored fighting vehicles (+40) 19,872 artillery systems (+51) 1,240 anti-aircraft missiles 984 air defense systems 369 aircraft and 329 helicopters 17,867 operational-tactical UAVs (+68) 2,625 cruise missiles 28 ships/boats and 1 submarine 27,660 vehicles and tank trucks (+100) 3,556 pieces of special equipment (+14) The Ukrainian forces also reported a recent success by the 100th Separate Mechanized Brigade, which destroyed two Russian 2C7 "Pion" self-propelled guns located deep in Russian-held territory. 1
red750 Posted October 28 Posted October 28 Russian military scorns North Koreans Cooperation between North Korea and Russia is intensifying. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un promised to send Putin 12,000 soldiers to help fight Ukraine. But the Russian military is not happy with the arrival of the North Korean soldiers. This is evident from intercepted audio clips in which the North Koreans are heavily insulted. Russian soldiers express concern about the way North Korean soldiers are directed and immediately provided with ammunition and military equipment. After all, after a short training period, they will be sent to the front in the name of Russia. But that is not to the liking of the Russian military. This is according to leaked information intercepted by the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence Agency. The Russian soldiers talk disdainfully about the incoming North Korean soldiers, code-named the “K Battalion,” and at one point call them “the f****** Chinese.” The audio, by the way, reveals plans to deploy one interpreter and three senior officers for every 30 North Korean men. “The only thing I don't understand is that there are three senior officers for 30 men. Where do we get them?” says one Russian soldier. Another can be heard on the audio saying of the Koreans, “What on earth should we do with them?” 1 1

red750 Posted October 29 Posted October 29 Russian Forces Make Largest Advance in Ukraine Since Early 2022 Largest Monthly Gain Since 2022 According to data from the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW), this marks Russia’s largest monthly territorial gain since March 2022. As of October 27, Russian troops had taken more ground than in both August (477 sq km, or 184 sq miles) and September (459 sq km, or 177 sq miles) combined. Most of these recent gains are concentrated in the eastern Donetsk region, where Russian forces seized approximately 324 square kilometers (125 square miles), according to Digi24. Russian troops are now reportedly advancing from the south and east, placing them within just a few kilometers of key urban centers. See more here. Crucial Logistics Hub According to a report by The Kyiv Independent, the bridge, located between the Vodokanal utility building and a car wash on Skhidnyi Boulevard, was destroyed after multiple nighttime explosions. The city of Berdiansk, under Russian control since early 2022, has been a crucial logistics hub. Read more here. 1

onetrack Posted November 3 Posted November 3 The U.S. has organised to give around 2000 "obsolete" Humvees to the Ukrainians. Even though the U.S. deems the Humvees as obsolete, they're still very capable, and battle-proven. Plus the fact they are not high-tech, are highly mobile and easily operated, and can be turned into many types of weapons-carriers, makes them a real asset to the Ukrainians. https://www.forbes.com/sites/vikrammittal/2024/10/29/why-the-recent-us-aid-package-to-ukraine-included-2000-humvees/ 1 1
