Sanctions against Russia

Portugal's stance on Ukraine's bid to join the European Union has taken a positive turn under the leadership of Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, according to the nation's newly appointed Foreign Minister, Paulo Rangel.

The announcement marks a significant shift from the previous government's cautious approach to the issue of EU enlargement, particularly concerning Ukraine's candidacy, which had been perceived as hesitant.

Portugal's Foreign Minister, Paulo Rangel, made the announcement, criticising the previous government’s hesitation.

Speaking at the ministerial meeting of the Atlantic Alliance in Brussels, Rangel noted, “Prime Minister Luís Montenegro has given a clear signal that he is in favour of EU enlargement. This is something that I think needed to be clarified because Portugal had some hesitations, especially when it was being given candidate status last year.”

The minister did credit the former government, led by Socialist Prime Minister António Costa, for its support of Ukraine amidst the conflict with Russia. But Rangel also pointed out that when it came to EU expansion, the previous administration showed hesitation, leaving room for ambiguity in Portugal's position.

“Now there is no ambiguity,” he added.

There were reports this morning of the drone attacks, but at that stage it was not known how many aircraft were hit. It was quite a swarm of drones apparently, resulting in a lot of explosions. Six bombers destroyed and eight damaged is a good result. There were also reports of Engels air base being hit as well. That's where the big bombers hang out; hopefully they did some damage there as well.

. Make America GRATE again. . ? Why are Republicans SO  inclined to stuff things up?. MONEY is ALL that motivates them. Isolationism appeals to selfish, self centred People till a way to profit from something different presents itself. (Like Lend LEASE in WW2)..  Nev

I am not so sure it is about money. The large defence industrues and fossil fule companies love this sort of thing. Deferring sending aid to Ukraine defers their revenues, defers their profits, defers their additional bonuses, etc.

This is more ideological... Can't let it be seen that Biden is doing good.. make him look bad and when the repubs come back, turn the stuff around and look how good they did... In other words, it is power and ideology...

Yes, the yanks like to make money where they can.. but they don't seem too different to others in that regards. They are more brazen about it.

They even devised a religion to accommodate it. Pentecostal 100 Million Believers. Really, It's a CULT. America is the birthplace of Many cults and get rich quick schemes and has never fully got over having slavery go out of fashion..  Nev

The latest unconfirmed reports on yesterday's airbase attacks are saying serious damage was caused to at least three Tu-95 bombers at Engels air base, and two Su-25 aircraft were destroyed at Yeysk airfield on the Azov Sea coast. Combined with losses at Morozovsk airfield, if all are confirmed, the total for the day would be 19 aircraft destroyed or damaged.

An interesting event  one doesn't hear of every day: https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/russia-state-emergency-mystery-radiation-leak-khabarovsk/

None of that report made sense. A mystery source of radiation, significant enough to invoke a 'state of emergency ', and it was discovered by a boy? And the source was placed in a safe container and removed, but they don't know what the source was?

This is the Ukrainian 'Backfire K1' UAV bomber which is going into serial production. It's GPS guided and recoverable by parachute.

And no exposure to the public.....  Nothing makes sense.

I'm not so sure about that. Federally, LNP members sit in Canberra with the party that held their seat before the amalgamation. Dutton had always been a Liberal before the creation of the LNP and sits with the Liberals in Canberra. Before the last election, there were twenty nine federal LNP MPs and Senators. Only eight sat with the Nationals and twenty one sat with the Liberals. At an organisational level, the LNP is a division of the Liberal Party and an affiliate of the National Party.
