old man emu Posted March 6, 2022 Posted March 6, 2022 Forget the V1, V2 and Me262, the Wehrmacht-Einheitskanister was Hitler's real war-winning secret weapon. Without it, WWII in Europe would have been a rehash of the trenched stalemate of the of western Europe in WWI. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwUkbGHFAhs 1 1

onetrack Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 I've found the black poly jerrycans are superior to the steel ones. The steel ones are prone to internal corrosion and pinholes due to vibration. However, the originals certainly were the dux nutz in the era before advanced plastics.
old man emu Posted March 7, 2022 Author Posted March 7, 2022 I just found a jerry can that was made in 1952. It is still in good condition. Those original ones were properly made. Some time later, the design was copied, but the ones made then did not follow the design to keep the welded seam below the outer surfaces of the can. Obviously plastics are now the cheapest way to make containers, and result in a more durable object. 1
