What is so urgent about planting a tree on the nature strip? The house below is under construction and nearing completion, but the Whitehorse City Council in its wisdom decided that today was the day they HAD to plant a tree (See photo). Builders vehicles, cement mixers, rubbish removal coming and going. Bets are the tree will be knocked down or run over. Either that, or neighbours will have to put up with the trucks in front of their house. Defies logic.

You've heard this one before, but it bears repeating in light of the above.

Two council workers were observed, one digging a hole, the other filling it in. The bystander asked what they were doing. One council worker said, "The guy who plants the trees called in sick today."

I was out at the aerodrome the other day and saw two council employees there. One was on a ride-on mower, cutting the grass around the come markers. The other was sitting in their vehicle talking to relatives on his phone, waiting for the mowing to be finished. On the other hand, one of the members of the Museum brought his boom spray equipment down and sprayed for burrs in a couple of passes.

It's laughable. There is an access onto the aerodrome for the owner of the original homestead, The access is over a cattle grid, which has filled with silt over the years so that it is now a series of rails flush with the ground surface. Wouldn't keep a lame cow from crossing over onto the runway. Who is responsible for keeping stock off the aerodrome - Council. I won't go into the wild animal control measured, but be careful you don's step on the roo poo in the tie-down area.

This is why the Museum wants to get the maintenance contract. At least pilots now what is required. I wonder if Council knows what this is https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2020C00797/Html/Text#_Toc49957454 (Manual of Standards - Aerodrome Operation_

I called the council yesterday to voice my concern as to the welfare of the tree. This morning they have called to rectify the situation. They put two extra stakes in the ground. Now all is well (sarcasm).
