James Earl Jones, the voice of Mufasa (The Lion King) and Darth Vader (Star Wars) has passed away at the age of 93.

Australian actor Alexander 'Lex' Marinos died on Friday at age 75, after a twenty year battle with cancer.

 

The NSW-born thespian, who had Greek heritage, had a fifty year career across Australia's entertainment sector as an actor, writer and TV director.

 

Many Australian's would remember him in the supporting role of Bruno 'The Wog' Bertolucci in the legendary sitcom Kingswood Country, which he appeared in from 1980 - 1984.

 

'He died at home, at a moment of his choosing, surrounded by family and the sounds of Bob Dylan accompanying our vigil. There was so much love in the room.'

Tito Jackson, of the Jackson Five, passed away on 16 September 2024.

Kathryn Crosby, 2nd wife of Bing Crosby, has died aged 90! She married Bing in 1957 - she was 23, he was 54. Bing died in 1977 at age 74, from a heart attack, after a round of golf!

Beloved Australian bass guitarist Dick Diamonde died earlier this month aged 76.

 

The iconic musician was a founding member of legendary rock band The Easybeats, who emerged as Australia's first internationally successful rock act in the 1960s.

The actress, singer and dancer, known for her iconic turns in South Pacific and There's no Business Like Show Business passed from natural causes on Thursday, October 17, her team announced in a statement.

Oh, you mean Francesca Marlene de Czanyi von Gerber? She came from Hungarian parentage. I'd forgotten all about her, she kept a pretty low profile in later years.

I wonder why she never had children, despite being married to the one bloke (who was also her manager) for 52 years?

Tarzan star Ron Ely dead at 86: Actor's daughter confirms his passing with emotional tribute.

I didn't know that Ron Eli's son, Cameron, stabbed his mother to death in 2019. Cameron was then shot by police in what appears to be typical U.S. police force over-reaction.

It seems that Cameron was in the grip of drugs, and possibly even intent on "death by police shooting" when he was confronted by police.

It must have been depressing for Ron Ely to try and cope with the knowledge, that despite ceasing acting work to spend more time raising his children, it was wasted effort on his son.

Quincy Jones, legendary music producer who worked with countless stars from Michael Jackson to Frank Sinatra, dies aged 91.

Legendary Australian actor Ken Shorter died in Sydney earlier this month aged 79.

 

He appeared in "You Can't See Around Corners", "Ned Kelly" (with Mick Jagger), "Stone", and numerous other films.

Gee, "You Can't See Around Corners" brings back some memories of the 1960's. I wasn't aware the story was originally written by Jon Cleary in 1948. The plot was based on a WW2 deserter, and the storyline was later modified in the 1967 TV series and the 1969 film, for the "hero" to be a Vietnam War deserter.

Cleary had a tough life, and I didn't know his father was jailed for 6 mths in 1928 for stealing £5 from his employers (bakers) money bag to feed his starving family. They were tough times.

The other TV production from around that time was My Brother, Jack. The book, by writer George Johnston, was serialised for ABC in 1965 by Charmian Clift, who was Johnston's wife. It featured actors Ed Devereaux, Nick Tate and Richard Meikle.

 

The only scene I remember from You Can't See Around Corners has Shorter and Rowena Wallace having a bit of a snog in a park or similar and his hand going up under her skirt. So much for the portrayal of Aussie literature to impressionable teenage boys.

There is a really good six-part series on SBS on demand at present called So Long, Marianne about the early life of Leonard Cohen. He was the lover of Charmian Clift when they lived on Hydra. Charmian's (illegitimate) daughter Suzanne was my teacher at Wagga Wagga high school and Suzanne's daughter Gina Chick was the winner of Alone Australia Season 1, after surviving 67 days alone, making her only the second female and oldest contestant in the history of the Alone worldwide to win.
