I used to marvel at howe people who have made it to a ripe old age would have experienced progress and change in society. Until a late octogenarian confided in me that the world has left him behind. Not only the tech, but society attitudes and culture, and the preseve of being grumpy was because it was difficult to fathom what to do in a brave new world. His opinion was even if he was compus mentis and of reasonable physical condition at a late age, he probably wouldn't be happy because the world isn't the one he knows.

 

Maybe the world shouldn't stop, but you get the option of the off ramp.

Many don't fit the oft quoted steriotype. The choice to end one's life must always be an option for the INDIVIDUAL. Making suicide a crime is a big Joke but it's NOT funny. Was it ever the LAW in Scotland?  Nev.

Another three celebrities passed away in quick succession.

 

Jeff Beck, formerly of the Yardbirds and the Jeff Beck Group, died on Jan 10, 2023

 

Robbie Bachman, the drummer and co-founder of ’70s rock group Bachman-Turner Overdrive, has died, Jan 12 2023

 

and

Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis, died Jan 13, 2023.

I read on MSN News that Jeff Beck died from the rare disease bacterial menengitis.

Heard this morning that David Crosby, of Crosby, Stills and Nash passed away after a long illness. He was 81.

All the people whose music, acting, sporting achievements we grew up with are, like us, getting to the end of our lives. It is to be expected that we hear on a daily basis of someone's passing. C'est la vie!

I heard about my passing but after telling it a few dozen times ! , no one gives a sheet,or cares.

Who was it? - Black Nationalist leader, Marcus Garvey? -  that read his own (mistaken) obituary in the newspapers?

 

It was reported he was so upset about how he was described in the obituary ("broke, alone and unpopular"), that had another stroke, and died 2 weeks later.

I am not a great Jazz & Soul fan but Renee Geyer was something else. Her voice has been described as being like "cigarettes rolled in honey". She had the rawness of Janis Joplin with the lift of Aretha Franklin. RIP Renee.

The whole story around Renee Geyers illness and death doesn't ring true. Why would any doctor do a hip operation on someone suffering from inoperable lung cancer? Nothing adds up with this.

I'm not getting a hip operation. George Pell is also described as dying from complications from a hip operation.

I heard on the radio that they discovered the cancer during the operation. I don't know how that works; maybe tumours impacted on the ventilation or something like that.

Plenty of surgery like that is done on the Private insurance Fee for service set up. A person I know rushed to hospital to prevent a leg amputation on his mother  who died a week later. Wouldn't have survived the OP but they would be Paid. .   Nev
