onetrack Posted September 2, 2023 Author Posted September 2, 2023 (edited) Jimmy Buffet, the singer and composer of "Margaritaville" and "Come Monday" has passed away at age 76. Geez, all my favourite rockers are dying like flies! Jimmy was an extremely successful businessman as well as a great songwriter and singer. He was a favourite artist of mine, and I still have cassette tapes of his songs. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-09-02/margaritaville-singer-jimmy-buffett-dies-aged-76/102807820 Edited September 2, 2023 by onetrack 1 1

Jerry_Atrick Posted September 16, 2023 Posted September 16, 2023 Well, it had to come, and I know a lot on here probably won't be a fan, but that venerable Aussie Rules personality, Ron Barassis has sadly passed away at 87 years of age. Although a tough man, and possibly enforcer status of the game, he was quite a personality on and off the field. 1 1
pmccarthy Posted September 16, 2023 Posted September 16, 2023 I was once at the pointy end of a flight to Perth. He stood up and rehearsed a speech to all of us that he would be giving the following day. Imagine having the self confidence to do that. 1 1

onetrack Posted September 17, 2023 Author Posted September 17, 2023 I can still remember an employee cracking a joke about Ron Barassi in the early 1970's. It went like this .... A couple of blokes were looking at a flooded MCG after a really heavy downpour. The water covered the ground. Suddenly, a figure appeared in the distance, carrying a football, and walking on the water. One bloke says, "Whoa! Is that Jesus Christ that's walking on the water out there?" And the other bloke replies, "No, it's just Ron Barassi - he just thinks he's Jesus Christ!" 1
pmccarthy Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 I also heard that told about Alex Jesaulenko, back in the day 2
facthunter Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 (edited) They were all treated like GODS. AFL replaced religion for a lot of people. It also stood for the Anti Football League which I should have joined with my attitude. It overpowers the TV at the wrong time of the year Nev Edited September 17, 2023 by facthunter more content 1 1 1

Old Koreelah Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 I first saw him in Robbery Under Arms, which I consider a memorable movie- the first one I ever saw. Although criticised for its complex plot and rushed production, it contained some great cinematography and a spectacular final battle scene- with sound effects never surpassed. 1

old man emu Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 If I was thinking of a career in show business, I'd forget about being a movie director and become a funeral director. There's more work in that. 2 1
