Marty_d Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 13 hours ago, Bruce Tuncks said: Many years ago, I was in an old taxi, going to Benghazi from the airport. The driver was not paying attention, he was lounging back and smoking, with one hand on the steering wheel. He was also doing in excess of 80 miles per hour. When I asked him to slow down, he made a big production out of stopping and opening the door for me to get out into the desert. If I had known that Libya has the most dangerous accident figures in the world, I would have got out. Arab countries in general have bad accident rates, apparently they believe that the time of your death is pre-ordained so there is no need to drive safely. I wonder why they do not have more formidable armies tho... Many people in Ireland drive around with a little saint glued to the middle of the dashboard, under the same belief that it offers more protection than, say, driving safely... (It may actually work - I took a car that had one for a test drive and actually returned it safely to the dealer.) 1 1
pmccarthy Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 I don't care if it rains or freezes, long as I've got my plastic Jesus.... etc 1 1
facthunter Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 St Christopher the sacred saint of travellers. One of the many invisible means of support if you belong to the flock. I reflected on the luminous road edges and suggest they would be an advantage as the edges of runways are illuminated and that helps. Nev 1 1

kgwilson Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 That's good. You won't have to worry about the driving age being raised for 3 years.😁 1
