old man emu Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 Have you ever noticed that in the original Star Trek series, Spock and McCoy address Kirk by his Given Name, usually the contracted version, "Jim", but Scotty, the Chief Engineer mainly uses the honorific, "Captain". Just goes to show that as much as things change, things remain the same. By the 23rd Century, the engineers who make flight possible are still being looked down upon by the blokes up front pulling the handles and pushing the buttons. Given the many examples of Kirk's having feet of clay, is he really in honorificabilitudinitatibus? 1
facthunter Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 Yes I can back that up. I was called into the Senior Regional Captains office to be reprimanded for being on" first name terms" (Unquote) with the despatch engineers. I stated it was the best way to find out what's really wrong with the aeroplane and walked out.. Nev 3

Spock had ten times the intellect, they wouldn't have been in half the scrapes if he'd been captain. 2
facthunter Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Then it would be boring and no one would watch it. It's cockpit resource management. Nev 1 2
