facthunter Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Probably the level maintained by the Torrumberry weir just downstream a few Kms about 20 i think. Nev
spacesailor Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 All the years going for " steam boat " rides at Echuca, How are the boats managing? . And how is our members living near the Murry river fairing. Here,s hoping ! , no bad news . spacesailor 1 2

Nev Another crikey, that is only 0.07mm per metre fall overall. It is amazing it even flows at all. The minimum fall when putting in a drain is supposed to be 1% or 10mm per metre. 2

onetrack Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 Yes, I believe the Murray River is one of the flattest rivers and river catchments in the world. 1
facthunter Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 It has numerous weirs too, to make matters worse for flow. Nev 1
facthunter Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 We've completely stuffed up this river. Sucking it dry with over allocation of water and expecting it to drain an area about 1/6th of Australia at the same time. Portability of water rights and rampant speculation and greed complete the Picture, Joyce is a prominent player in this one. Nuff said. Nev 1 2
onetrack Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 I guess every cloud has a silver lining, and the one here is that the massive floods must be doing wonders to recharge all the underground aquifers in the region - including the Great Artesian Basin. 3
facthunter Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 And get rid of some salt. Those places are fertile because of floods. Silting. Not much of Australia has much topsoil and it's very low soil carbon content. Nev 1 1
pmccarthy Posted October 17, 2022 Author Posted October 17, 2022 The Murray used to flow to St Vincents gulf. Then the land rose and cut it off. A bit before my time. 1 2

Often we hear of rivers peaking at X metres. It usually seems to be a local height above normal, whatever that is, given our continent’s huge variations in rainfall. 1
facthunter Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 On road crossings it's depth of water from the formed surface. Nev 1

Nev Makes sense to you and me, but last year we were called to rescue a city bloke who took a shortcut across the plains, entering water where a sign said 2. It was two metres deep. 1 1
facthunter Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 2 Deep for sure. There's nothing foolproof. Nev 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 Tassie is suffering, too.. Here are some pics of whaty is going on there: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-10-17/tasmania-floods-in-pictures-october-2022/101541766. Just devastation everywhere. 1 1
red750 Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 The effects of the flood can be seen in this photo of muddy water flowing into Bass Strait at Barwon Heads. Read more here. 4
Jerry_Atrick Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 The floods have also brought out the worst in people - looters have helped themselves to protected gelongings of evacuated houses in Marybinong, while some stole the sandbags protecting an elderly ladies house. 2
red750 Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Also in regional areas. Newsagency in Mooroopna broken into through roof, brick through Thai resaurant window. Similar reports from Echuca. B@stards ought to be flogged... in public. 4
Jerry_Atrick Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 I feel like saying... and give the victims the first right of refusal to administer the first lashes... but I won't 2
facthunter Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 You can count on the media to beat it up to the MAX as well. Nev 1
old man emu Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Ironically on my buy, sell and swap someone in Narromine is trying to sell a tinny fishing boat. Narromine is on the flooded Macquarie River. 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Easy to take for a test drive at the moment. 1
onetrack Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 He'd get more for it, if he advertised it as a "flood rescue craft". Good sales results are very dependent on good marketing.
