onetrack Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Yes, I'd forgotten all about the Argonauts. I can remember joining, but I can't for the life of me, recall my appointed Argonaut name. All the records have long been dumped. And of course, who can forget, "Yes, What?".... Dr Pym - "Good morning, boys!" ... The Students - "Goooooood Moooooorrrning, Sir!!" Dr Pym - GREENBOTTLE!! ... Greenbottle - "Yes, sir! ..." Dr Pym - Yes, What? ... (sounds of whacking with the cane) ... Greenbottle - "OWWWW!!" ...... 1
nomadpete Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 After listening to comedy like "Yes Wot!", any wonder The Goons were such a hit? 1
facthunter Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 I used to listen to the Voice of America with Martin Block.. Nev 2
nomadpete Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 So is exposure to primitive social media the reason for our collective cynical outlook on 'faith'? Merde! 1 1
facthunter Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Rename it "Brainwashing" and I'll say YES. Nev 1 1
Marty_d Posted November 11, 2022 Author Posted November 11, 2022 Comedy is generally a good cure for religiosity. Humour and intelligence are more powerful than dogma. Ricky Gervais is the prime example of this but there are many others. 1 2 1

pmccarthy Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Funny I can still remember all the songs on the Argonauts. They were all regional English in one way or another. And the Muddle-Headed Wombat, played by Jimmy.
facthunter Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 Yes . Everything in nature seems to be food for something else. (Except top predators.) It's pretty raw out there when you watch it..Nev. 1

facthunter Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 No. HERE No animal or human is killed or injured when elections happen. UNLIKE most other places in the World. Arthur Caldwell was shot so we are not immune but how many US presidents have been assassinated? Nev 1
Old Koreelah Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 Politics is a cutthroat business even when no blood is spilled- misinformation, bribery and manipulation have destroyed many an MP’s career. 1 1
facthunter Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 Not only that , the opposition when A Bot was leading it actively sabotaged a lot of Labors activities. Actually treason I would think. Ably assisted by Murdoch and co. Nev 2 1
Yenn Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 What makes you think the top predators don't have predators. We are petty near the top of the tree and how many humans are killed by the diseases spread by insects or even smaller things, such as bacteria and viruses? 2 1
facthunter Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 Sharks and crocodiles haven't changed in Millions of years because they have few enemies (except humans.) Nev 1

onetrack Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 I dunno, I reckon there's a lot of politicians running around with the signs of huge knife blade marks in their backs!! - often from their own party members!!

Jerry_Atrick Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 As long as he doesn't get out.. that is fine.. I have often wondered how stupid the American system was with respect to multiple life sentences that result in hundreds of years on a sentence.. I guess it is designed to keep them in, even if an appeal for leniency wins.. "Yeah, we'll reduce the senteence to only 2 life sentences". Whether or not the jail system works is another question... but at least I can see the "logic" to such long sentences... 1 1
old man emu Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 My opinion is that the US criminal justice system is purely punitive with no intent to rehabilitate. At least what the impression is from their songs, which can influence their movie scripts. It seems that for anything that we would punish by fine, they get 30 days in the slammer. In Australia a person can get two "life sentences", but they are served concurrently, not sequentially. And by the time a person has served twenty years or so, they are getting old and unhealthy, so they are paroled so that they don't die in custody and create mountains of paperwork. 1 2
