Today is Remembrance day - apropos of war, it's now 104 years since WW1 ended, 77 years since WW2 ended and 50 years since the Vietnam war ended.  Yes Australia has been involved in peacekeeping missions and various Middle East invasions since, but we haven't had the loss of life (on our side) that comes from being heavily involved in a shooting war for 50 years now.

While fully cognizant that many countries in the world are suffering from war - not just Ukraine but a few on the African continent also, we haven't sent masses of (mainly) young men to die for insufficient reason for 5 decades now.

It is so sad to see that human behaviour has not matured much in the past couple of hundred thousand years.

It hasn't changed at all, but now we have the meeja in all its public and private formats.

OME, i'm starting to doubt the theory of evolution. At least as far as cultue and human behaviour is concerned.

Meeja and soshul forums have simply provided new ways to display old behaviours.

Fortunately evolution is soley dependent on biochemical reactions in the first instance. The results of those reactions as they influence physical attributes are well understood. However we are yet to solve the mystery of how biochemical reactions in the nerve cells of those portions of the brain related to the various sorts of behaviours (seeking food and shelter; reproduction; group behaviour all the way up to philosophical conjecture), produce what we observe individuals doing.

So don't doubt evolution of the physical. It is the evolution of thought that seems to escape evolution in many organisms.

Even as a kid, I hated the theatricality of "  the 11th hour of the eleventh month" stuff. What if you were one of the many who died waiting?

AND the reasons england decided to quit the war were easy to work out and quite nasty and selfish. The Germans wanted peace in 1915 but the poms were having too much fun....  gosh it was awful.
