Indeed. We did a refurb of our house in Richmond about 12 years ago.. We remember the mistakes we made on that project, just after making the same one on these!

Yes.. as am I; project managing a build on this scale is different to managing what I do, and managing the last refurb - many more moving parts and regulations/officials' discretions to navigate. Having said that, I would rather me learning the more practical side, except I am not that dextrous.

Doesn't stop me trying - except of course, for typing.  And I do get pi55ed off when I don't get something relatively quickly.

 

Anyway,  movement today has been not bad..

 

Below are the two islands fitted In the first Side panels and plinths not on as the flooring has to be stained. But gives an idea of what it will look like:

 

This gives an idea of the symmetry we were looking for (note, the mixer will be changed and yes, we are not going with the plywood worktops).

 

 

Some more views of the islands.. You will not believe how much of a moral boost the islands and the handles have given us. We will actually start filling them:

 

On the far left of the below photo is where the dishwasher is. Having the front panel finally fitted has llfted the spirits immensley.

 

And, of course, what would an island be without a home for messrs Wolfie and Grant (and Yering Station) - only their mnore delicate whites, of course:

(although it is a dual zone wine fridge and we can have reds in there, but there is a wine cellar downstairs - just not fitted out or used)

Which in terms of dimensions, is no issue, but on the white-ish bit is where a tall radiator will be fitted and we havewn't worked out how to fit the cupboards to open the doors! Something I may need both Wolfie and Grant to help work out a solution.

 

Finally, the sparky came and has started to prepare for a new ring of power:

 

May have to invest in some solar and a windmill..

Never mind them - what about the kitchen room for the air fryer, the pizza oven, the bread maker, the Thermomix and so on. And make sure they are wireless compatible! (did you know you can get a wireless food chopper?)

OME's renovation is half finished already. That only leaves him 90% to go.

I know.. I have had a couple of tech failures over the last couple if weeks so haven't taken any photos. Plus a mate who is the sparky has also had te h issues and things have slowed down a bit.

 

Plumbers returned yesterday; I am in London today and tomorrow, so a full update on the weekend

Have been a bit quiet lately as the work has slowed right down. Had to replace as sparkie as he was only fitting us in between jobs, but as the days are starting to close in, we needed to get someone with more time.

 

Anyway, today, finally the worktops to the kitchen islands have been fitted:

Note in the abice, there is no tap; we have a combination always boiling water tap, and it will need to be fitted by the new sparkie; early next week.

 

We have an induction hob (never go back to standard electric and certainly not gas). This one has a self-extractor. However, it is deeper than the one in the showroom, so we have to cut the back of the drawer under it and paint it:

 

And we had to cut out for power points (we were going to have them inside the drawers, but it was in the end easier to have them out):

Note, the sides of the Island don't go to the overhang.. We are debating whether or not to fix it.

 

 

Downlights are almost fitted.. The new sparky had issues tracving the previously installed cable by the other sparky (just differences in style, by the sounds of it). But, he did leave as a switch which is safe not to be installed.

Integrated fridge freezer installed and the Microwave, oven, and warming drawer:

Just waiting for the panels to be fitted, but they will be cone after the sparkly does his stuff, early next week).

 

 

And a couple of photos from when I took my 18 year old daughter who finished A Levels (HSC/VCE equivalent) to London to view the Royal Courts of Justice and have lunch, before taking her to a pub called Dirty Dicks on Bishopsgate (look it up; very sad story); and then to another pub to meet a mate who flew in from Melbourne:

 

Forgot to mention that when we got the train back the pub I stay at when in London, bumped into a couple of fellas I used to work with and lived around the corner form where I lived when in London. They had about the same imbibement as I did; was a good evening.. Daughter now wants to embark on her chosen career.

 

Trick is go get her to want to do it on Melbourne or Sydney.
