red750 Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Australia's last white paper manufacturer is closing. The plant is located in the Latrobe Valley. Restrictions on logging are quoted as the reason. Paper supplies (writing paper, printer paper, exercise books, envelopes, etc.) will be sourced from overseas, primarily China. Prices wil inevitably increase. The only paper produced here will be recycled paper. 1

red750 Posted January 18, 2023 Author Posted January 18, 2023 Back about 1994, I visiited that paper mill, well, the offices at least. I worked for a company that produced a software package for managing hazardous goods data, Materials Safety Data Sheets. I had to instal the software on their computer. 1
pmccarthy Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 We will have another toilet paper emergency come next pandemic. 2
onetrack Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 It's alright - after the Great Toilet Paper Scramble of 2020, every Australian household now has enough toilet paper in storage, to keep them going until the year 2065. 1 1
spacesailor Posted January 19, 2023 Posted January 19, 2023 Not really! . We don't get a ' news paper ' anymore . SO , lack of alternate toilet paper . LoL spacesailor 1

onetrack Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Right after the Vindaloo meal purchased from a street vendor in Kolkata?
facthunter Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Delhi Belly? Just add water or salad Nev 1
Bruce Tuncks Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 There are very few places where it is safe to eat a salad. Gosh its nice to live in one. I personally got the runs from a restaurant in Cairo and it was awful, and there was nothing uncooked in sight. 1 1
onetrack Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 I believe red cordial is the best treatment for "Delhi Belly", and the cordials with a high percentage of rasperry juice are best. Cottees cordial used to be the recommended one, but many reckon Cascade rasperry juice cordial is better. There's something in the chemical and sugar content that kills the bugs. I hate to think what else the red cordial kills in your stomach. 1
facthunter Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Don't you ever "sigh" for the fleshpots of Egypt?. These days if you stay long your Goose will be cooked. It's OFF my destination list. Nev 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 I spent two weeks in Hyderabad.. I ate the local fayre for all but one meal.. inclduding from street vendors. The stuff was so cooked from the street vendors, that if I only ate it, I would have died of malnutrition as anything useable was cooked out of it. But, the only time I got sick was when I ordered, on the Sunday, a roast chicken from the hotel.. Apparently western food is ordered so infrequently, that it sits in the warmer for days or even a week before they throw it out. 1 1
onetrack Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 I've never sighed for any fleshpots and I wouldn't know a fleshpot if I saw one, and I certainly couldn't imagine Egypt as providing anything resembling a fleshpot. I've been to Cairo, and it's not a place I want to revisit.
Yenn Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 Try Singapore. The best fleshpot, or at least it was when I worked there in 98 and 71/2. Food is perfectly safe. 1

Bruce Tuncks Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 There was an american celebrity and his wife who were trying to be careful in Mexico. No salads! No drinking water that was not from a bottle... They nearly died though, and their source of infection turned out to be the ice cubes . 1 1
facthunter Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 It's normally lead poisoning from a pistol. Nev 1 1
Bruce Tuncks Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 It was in Acapulco I remember, at a swish hotel. Yep, they sure have lots of murders there... I read of a girl being promoted to police chief but she was killed like her predecessors I think. 1
