Marty_d Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 It'd be very sad if he got that saying the wrong way around.
Phil Perry Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 I think he said don't trust a fart or waste an erection. No, it wasn't Billy Connolly PM, it was Sir John Falstaff in the Shakespeare play 'Henry IV part One'. . . . close,. . . but no Bunnings hotdog. . . .
old man emu Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 "We'll all be rooned ..." Said by whom to who, and in what ?
hihosland Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 'twas in an Irish accent most forlorn but I can't recall in what
old man emu Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Almost, but no cigar. The correct line is: "In accents most forlorn"
hihosland Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 I do know the line OME just can't recall who wrote it It's long enough to be from Lawson's pen but not him, I'm certain another line "It's looking crook" said Daniel Croke.
nomadpete Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Are you sure Ian intended this forum to slide down into this morass of intellectuality????
old man emu Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Are you sure Ian intended this forum to slide down into this morass of intellectuality???? Oh, Nomadpete. You're such a Palestine. Hiho, you're on the right page, but Daniel didn't say it. "It’s lookin’ crook," said Daniel Croke; "Bedad, it’s cruke, me lad For never since the banks went broke Has seasons been so bad." Begorrah, I've almost let the leprechaun slip. OME
Phil Perry Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 "We'll all be rooned ..."Said by whom to who, and in what ? Got me there OME. . . A similar sounding one is 'We'rrrre all DOOOOOOOOMED. . .' The late John Laurie - in 'Dad's Army' . . .
Phil Perry Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Are you sure Ian intended this forum to slide down into this morass of intellectuality???? 'morass of intellectuality???? ' What a Great line Pete . . .I'm nickin' that for my collection of eruditisms. . .!
old man emu Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 And the kewpie doll almost goes to red750. You still have not got the title correct. Said Hanrahan - John O'Brien )ME
pmccarthy Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 John O'Brien was a pen name, he was actually Father Hartigan, a priest in Narrandera. The names of the characters in the poem were all real local families, like the Cronks. I went to school with some of them. (Sorry, not funny, but perhaps interesting).
hihosland Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Who, where, when "I come here not as a polished politician"
facthunter Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 They say, you can polish a turd, but it's still a turd. ( A version of a "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet". I just love. I now nothing about anything in this line of business so I will bring a fresh approach to running it. This makes a virtue of ignorance. A questionable process, if you apply logic at all. Nev
bexrbetter Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 Hanrahan was an optimist! Is he any good, because I need some new glasses myself.
David2ayo Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Is he any good, because I need some new glasses myself. Making a spectacle of yourself again! David

I think whoever did that graph is on the lower side of the spectrum, given there's no way on earth they can extrapolate something like average worldwide IQ more than a decade or so, much less 100 years.

You haven't factored in the late 20th Century factors of TV, monopoly-owned newspapers, visual media domination by the USA, Internet-based social media, abandonment of the 3-Rs in education by thepromotion of multiple minority causes ........ I'm surprised that the the graph's formula is in the First Degree (y = -mx + b).
facthunter Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 Education is NOT the same as intelligence. Intelligence is a capacity not an end condition. Knowledge is learned/acquired. Nev
Marty_d Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 Plus IQ is only one factor. Someone with high emotional intelligence but lower IQ may be far more suited to many jobs than another person with the reverse.
