red750 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 I saw an innterview with an American football official, who said their version of rugby was called Sevens.

The shortness of the in-goal area has caused defensive problems and my opinion from the commentators' call is that the advertising boards being so close are creating a danger of injury. What the Yanks probably don't realise is that Rugby players (both codes) are hitting that try line at full pace and can't stop safely if there is no over-run distance. 1
willedoo Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 I think if they had to play permanently on a field that size, it would become a very different game. Watching it on TV, it looks like there's very little space and it gives the visual impression of players everywhere. Those sidelines are certainly dangerous from an injury risk point of view.
willedoo Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 According to Wikipedia, Allegiant Stadium is the second-most expensive stadium in the world at 1.9 billion cost. I like the way the grandstand lifts up so the natural grass football field can slide outside in the sunlight. College football games use an artificial turf field which is rolled up and packed away when the natural grass field is rolled in. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegiant_Stadium
Jerry_Atrick Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Uggghhhh! It's going to be a long year for Hawthorn... All that promise in the run home to the end of the season last year as evaporated. 1

willedoo Posted May 17 Author Posted May 17 The NRL women's game is growing. Last night's NRLW State of Origin game one drew a record crowd of 25,492 at Lang Park in Brisbane, almost double the figure of last year's opener. NSW won the day in a well deserved win. This is the first year the women's State of Origin will be best of three games in line with the men's competition. TV ratings were up 40% as well, with nearly a million viewers tuning in. 2
willedoo Posted July 17 Author Posted July 17 For a Queenslander, this is as good as it gets - Origin 3 decider at Lang Park. It's a cold night; the lads will have to wear an extra pair of cockroach stomping socks.

facthunter Posted July 18 Posted July 18 I even watched most of it. . A very rare thing for me. . The win was deserved. Nev 1
willedoo Posted July 18 Author Posted July 18 It was an amazingly tough game, I think only the second in Origin history to go to half time without a try scored. NSW were the stronger team and in the end their fitness outlasted Queensland. Right from the start, NSW dominated ball possession and field position. If Queensland blinked, NSW would have rolled right over them. In the end the Qld. side tired out and the Blues were able to score. They'll be happy with the win; first time they've won a decider at Lang Park in 19 years. Interestingly, one of the commentators said Lang Park has made the list of the world's top stadiums. It's unrecognisable from the old stadium where we used to have our annual high school athletic meets and where they also staged concerts. 1 1
willedoo Posted July 18 Author Posted July 18 The King looked a bit subdued when he brought the football out. I don't think he's been very well lately. 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Who would have thought - after round 7 (of 24 rounds), the Hawks were second bottom and looking pretty well buggered for the season. They then went on to win all but I think it was two, to the end of the round, taking some fairly prized scalps. Last week they more than comfortably accounted for teh Bulldogs at the MCG in the elimination final. Today, they take on Port Adelaide in Adelaide! I am not going to get much work done today! For the first tim in the season, they have injuries to key players - Will Day who has turned out to be a mercurial midfielder; Sam Frost, who has gone from being the laughing stock of defending to actually making good decisions and quite handy at his craft. They still go in warm favourties with a gut-running, fast style of game, that really just takes the game back to its basics. Despite a small defence and forward line, they have been playing well above their height. Although favouurites, it will be tough for them to win, and if they don't, well, it puts the next season on positive tilt because they have had key long term injuries to key position players that also should come back next season. If they do win, a sneaky trip to Melbourne for a couple of weeks may be the order of the day..
