red750 Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 Here is a photo to put the fear of God into our American freinds, and a few others. Story here. 1
facthunter Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 Carpet snakes are pretty harmless. WE had them to keep down the mice in a feed shed where I grew up in Newcastle. Nev
onetrack Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 I don't believe that for one minute. I've had an angry carpet snake in the bush lunge at me like a bloody cobra. They're nasty, untrustworthy things, snakes. 1
facthunter Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Some are much worse than others by a mile. Anything threatened will react, that's only natural. The ones in the shed were normally up in the roof rafters. No Mice or Rats anywhere.. (I'll let YOU into a secret. Being little I was also scared of them and never went right into the shed). Nev
spacesailor Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 (edited) The snakes at the ' son-in-law's ' place are Very scared of ' him ' he beats them to death with a Big shovel . They have lost four horse's to snake bites . spacesailor PS He & I , eat game meat , but he never eats those snakes. ( must try it one day ). Edited August 28, 2023 by spacesailor A little more ! 1
spacesailor Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 Snakes ! . Two ' alpacas, lots of dogs and one cow ( or bull ) that was left to rot in the pasture, with the herd. All taken but not devoured . Same with sharks . IF we ate more of the human enemies, there would be less loss of human life . I tasted ' crocodile ' but not. Taken with its bland taste. spacesailor
facthunter Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 The only reason to eat croc is revenge. It tastes pretty ordinary. Nev
spacesailor Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 (edited) So , how does that ' snake , ' taste , a little Gambier I hope . My wife cringes at the thought of eating such things , like the little ' grasshopper ' , Deep-fried & crispy. Better than ' witchery grub ' , eaten raw & cold . Toad is poisonous, but only the skin ! . Deep fried toad-legs anyone? . Thought provoking, but gets rid of whatever we could do without. The only ' fish ' my bro ate was " flake " . No bones & tasty. spacesailor Edited August 29, 2023 by spacesailor Double word
facthunter Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 I've had Frog's legs. Bit like chicken.. Snails in France. The trouble they go to cooking them, ANYTHING would taste OK. Nev
Marty_d Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 I'll have to try escargot next time we go there. My theory is they'd be similar to shellfish?
facthunter Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 They use a lot of Garlic usually and remove the inside and put it back again for looks. The Spanish way is just blobs and is a bit challenging to behold. Needs a big pitcher of local RED to wash it down.. Nev 1
spacesailor Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Pipees, claims, muscles, oysters , winkles! Lovely pub fare , even jellied eels . Went down a treat . spacesailor 1
red750 Posted August 29, 2023 Author Posted August 29, 2023 Who will be first to spot the hidden image? As they say, once you see it, you can't unsee it. Don't spoil it for others, simply reply "Got it".
Marty_d Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 Yup only took a couple of seconds. Very good though 1
onetrack Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 (edited) Yeah, finally got it. I went down the wrong path looking for an animal. Made the mistake of enlarging the photo, it's seen more quickly when the photo is small. Edited August 30, 2023 by onetrack
nomadpete Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 Not me. I usually get these instantly. I'll come back tomorrow for another look 1
octave Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 I am a prolific photographer (not necessarily a good one). I came across these photos I took a few years ago and I thought they qualified as photography and aviation related. 4
red750 Posted September 2, 2023 Author Posted September 2, 2023 I've been taking photos for 60 years. As a teenager I was given a small 35mm film camera by a chap my father knew through work. Here is one of the first aviation photos I took. Note the date in Nov 1963. Since then I've photographed landscapes, planes, cars, animals, you name it. Over the years I have had about six cameras from basic, to single lens reflex to digital. I enjoy being able to edit digital images. Although I have a digital camera with a 35X zoom lens, I take many photos with my iPhone 6. This is one of my iPhone photos.. P.S.> If you would like to see a small collection of my photos (892 of them), click on the flickr.com link below. 4
Popular Post red750 Posted September 2, 2023 Author Popular Post Posted September 2, 2023 The other link in my signature is to the photos I have uploaded to airport-data.com, and the link below is to my photos on airliners.com. I gave up trying to meet airliners' extremely tight requirements. Every uploaded photo is scrutinised by "experts" and rejected for such things as too much sky or too much foreground, etc. My photos on airliners.com. 4 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Have perused them some time ago.. Great work! 1
willedoo Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Not very good resolution, but I saw this photo on the web of a strangler fig after the host tree has died. 1 1

Wow! Nature is pretty good at creating the most efficient structures. Bee hives, wasp nests, etc with hexagonal cells. Termites remove all but the most critical wood. As I’ve posted before, there’s a similar, though less spectacular relic at the Stinson crash site on the Qld-NSW border: part of the tubular steel structure of the aircraft is sticking out of the southern side of a tree. The Stinson came from the north, shedding part of it’s wings on arrival. The post crash fire killed nearby trees and a new tree grew up through and around the wreckage, until the old dead tree rotted and fell. Most visitors never notice this rusty relic, about 6m above their heads. 2
red750 Posted October 25, 2023 Author Posted October 25, 2023 I bought myself a telephoto lens for my iPhone. The set included a wide angle lens, macro lens and fisheye lens. The set, including mini tripod cost $37.11 on eBay, and postage was inclded. Here are some sample photos from the telephoto lens. I haven't tried the others yet. Standard iPhone lens set at wide angle. Standard iPhone lens set at max telephoto. iPhone lens set at wide angle with new telephoto attached. Accidently moved to square format. iPhone lens set to max tele, with new telephoto attached. These are all hand held as I could not use the tripod where I was taking the photos, and focussing was difficult. 2 2
