Popular Post old man emu Posted May 10, 2023 Popular Post Posted May 10, 2023 You can please some of the people some of the time ... You've got to have sympathy for Jim Chalmers. No sooner had the Treasurer sat down from announcing the budget than the bleating started. And it wasn't coming from the other side of the House. Welfare (??) mobs cried out for more. Or at least their well-paid executives did. (What qualifications do you need to score a job like that? Who is putting in the money?) As Albo said, the Cabinet has been working hard for months to frame the Budget to enable it to do what we gave it a mandate to do, and to ensure that what was gathered from the people in the form of taxation was applied as best it could be to their benefit. It's had a lucky windfall from increased taxation income from resources, but at least Chalmers was honest enough to say that this year's surplus is more than likely to be a one-off and there is not likely to be one next year. I like that Labor is ditching a lot of consultants and replacing them with its own employees. To my mind, consultants to government are rip-off merchants. Their hourly rates are what even a plumber would consider outrageous. Try as they might, Labor has tried to redirect that surplus back to the taxpayers. If I was responsible for paying for my electricity, I think I'd prefer the government to stop power companies overcharging (no pun), than get a small amount of financial assistance to pay those over-the-top prices. From what I hear, Labor has been on a massive waste-cutting exercise since it came into office. They haven't stymied what is needed, say in Defence, but made those spending the money make sure they get value for it. 4 1

facthunter Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 In the old days a party leader would appoint any threat to Him to the position of Treasurer or Foreign affairs. One would be hated and the other unknown.. Nev 1

Jerry_Atrick Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 Well, the Juice Media have another great video out.... Not just about the budget, but a good play on the interconnectedness of the budget and the RBA monetary policy. Note, also, although mentioned in the vid, that SFM/Frydenburger were castigated for acting in the oppositre direction of monetary policy, yet, Chalmers is also doing it (although to a lesser extent, granted). Still want thos stage 3 tax cuts? (warning: more expletives than normal) 1
