Jerry_Atrick Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 Wow.. They breed the grey nomads slightly differently up here. Last night, when driving home from London, heading south on the M5 and not being a slouch (doing about 80mph), I saw some headlights coming towards my posterior. A grey nomad couple overtook me in their mobile home at a decent rate of knots. Since I had read this thread earlier, I decided to speed up and see ho past they were doing - 90 mph.. Maybe they were Aussie grey nomads who thought the speedo was calibrated to kph? I backed off, so I will never know. I like a Californian state loaw that on vertain roads (usually windy roads like the Pacific Highway) you have to pull over at the next safge place and allow vehicles to pass if ytou have over 5 vehicles trailing you. Sounds very practical to me. 3 1
nomadpete Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 (edited) I was pointing out that I often reduced speed to a couple below my limit due to the rough surface (but still faster than the trucking speed limit), and a hundred ton B-double overtook me at least 20kph higher than his speed limit, while the rig danced over the rough surface. I was questioning the safety of some heavy vehicle pilots. And I question the very name "Speed LIMIT", which is generally taken to be a MINIMUM limit. And we only dream of road surfaces like your M5. Jerry_Atrick Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 (edited) The M5 is as rough as guts compared to the morotways and autobahns un Europe. But we don't have too many corrugations or gravel roads.. or melted spots, tbh. Edited June 15, 2023 by Jerry_Atrick 1
