I think the ID19 and DS21 were the most radical, advanced vehicles in spite of all the knockers.

I don't see how one could fit it there and have the suspension and driveshafts. It wouldn't be very fast. The original Kombi wasn't, even by itself.  You never saw them pulling anything. Nev

And nobody  picked up that the two pictures  were of totally  different  projects.

Top pic was about  1970-ish twin cab tug, relatively standard.

Bottom pic was split screen 1950-ish, radically reinvented.

But either vehicle  couldn't  pull the skin off grandma's rice puddin.

 

When they were new, every weekend you could expect a kombi holding back the queue of cars heading for the beach.

Not much space in a ' single cab Ute ' . Towing a ' caravan ' .

In NZ Always a hold up on the steep hills. ' just another " dub-dub " !.

Until

We got that " Holden Commadore,  with it's crash 1st gear ! .

Then it was a stop-start queue.
