Along the same sort of line: I wonder how much air, with its included dust, gaseous chemicals, and microorganisms we release here when we open anything that has been packaged in another country. I'm thinking about stuff in blister packaging of things like AA batteries or glues. You can think of your own examples.

Nev nah thats worse. doing a scuba course and the number 1 rule is keep breathing - never hold your breath. if the regulator comes out - constantly breathe out. the real danger is having air in your lungs as you ascend. it expands and can over inflate your lungs. as little as 1m of depth change can cause injury with this 1

willedoo
I've figured it out. This convalescing after an operation is a bit like being on R&R. Except that I'm not fit enough for the recreation part so I'm on R. 2

red750
The gas support struts on my Festiva no longer support the the rear hatch. I found a small clamp designed to hold the hatch open on Temu for just under $5. Great. I went to Repco to see if they had something similar. I found an identical item, but nearly died when I saw their price. $50. So I came home and started to order 2 from Temu. When Iwent to the checkout screen, it said "Minimum order $40, order another $30 worth of product." I didn't want a pile of other stuff, so I aborted the order. I also then checked Supercheap Auto. They have something similar for $34. Looks like I'll get one there. Save at least $16 on Repco.
Marty_d
Why don't you get a $20 gas strut from Bunnings? 1 1
nomadpete
Even cheaper, when my hatch struts failed on a long trip, I got a piece of aluminium U section from a hardware. I cut it to drop over the thin (piston) part of the strut when the hatch was up. 1

The attachment points for the gas struts had rusted out so it was nigh on impossible to replace. I have been using a piece of curtain track but it is liable to slip and hit you on the head. I have checked the Bunnings website and they have the correct size for $21.00. The car has two struts on the rear hatch.

spenaroo
one thing I really like on the old MG midget is the telescoping struts used on the bonnet and boot lid. so easy to use. makes you wonder why they "upgraded" to gas struts. (i assume it was to help with the extra weight from windows etc...) (pic taken from internet, not of my car)
spacesailor
The same as " hanging in garage " . Push a catch , on side to lower . spacesailor
facthunter
The gas strut is a much more precision thing and mass production has made them cheap. Winds can still make a fairly heavy bonnet close if you're not careful. Nev
