willedoo Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Some may already know this tip. If you've had too many hamburgers lately and are popping buttons on the work pants, sew them on with waxed dental floss and you won't have to do it again. Same principle as the waxed thread they use in saddlery and leather sewing. 1
old man emu Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Well, why do you use waxed thread when stitching fabric to a wing?????
newsaroundme Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Hi, this is my first post to this forum and I thought this was a great way to begin. My random thought isn't so random - I just genuinely think (making this my thought) that a random thought topic makes this already more interesting than Facebook. I am now wondering about my own random (or not so random) thought. 1

spacesailor Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Is " dental floss " waxed ? . Or do you have to wax the shop bought floss . spacesailor 1

willedoo Posted September 7 Posted September 7 I can remember with thread for sewing leather, just using a block of beeswax and running the thread over the block to wax it. 1
spacesailor Posted September 7 Posted September 7 I use 40 denier cotton , and also the beeswax . The trouble I have , it doesn't seem to like the sun .one season & it's back to restitching my " shadecloth " again. ( shadesails ) . sspacesailor 2

Michael Leunig's 55-year career at The Age came to an end last week when the editor of the Melbourne-based masthead, Patrick Elligett, told subscribers the cartoonist had 'filed his last editorial illustration'. But Leunig, 79, is refusing to go quietly, and delivered a blunt farewell message to the newspaper by accusing its editors of censorship and branding it a 'tacky tabloid'. End of an era 3
onetrack Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I went to a talk by Michael Leunig maybe 15-18 years ago, he was very interesting and related the major level of cruelty he endured in his upbringing. He was really brutalised in his workplace as a young teenager, he ran into some co-workers who raped him regularly, and he couldn't, and didn't know what to do about it. None of the bastards ever got caught for their paedophilia. One would think he would've become an embittered and angry person, but he wasn't, he just had this quirky view of life, and the ability to put it into cartoons. This is his 1998 view of what we should have on our new Australian flag, this was when the Republican movement was in full swing. 1 3
willedoo Posted September 9 Posted September 9 You see some silly things on the net. This photo was on one of those clickbait sites where you end up scrolling through photo after photo while being bombarded with the intended advertising. The article was titled '50 hilarious security fails we couldn't make up if we tried -they’re so ridiculous it just becomes funny.' The heading for the photo was '1. Inefficient System - There has to be a better way to secure the gate than using six different locks. If you unlock just one lock, the gate is able to be opened. Whoever designed the system failed big time.' As most would know, they're individual safety lockout locks. Each worker attaches their own lock and removes it when they exit the job. Six locks means six people are inside the plant or machine and it can't be operated until the last lock is removed. It prevents someone starting up a plant or machine and gobbling up some workers who are still inside. 1 2
willedoo Posted September 12 Posted September 12 This bloke is using the shifting spanner the wrong way round (4.30 minutes onward). I've always found it's more stable if the solid jaw takes the bulk of the strain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfmNfwKnr5g
onetrack Posted September 12 Posted September 12 He looks just like the sort of bloke who take a hammer to a chunk of gelignite (or powergel) laying on an anvil, just to see what happens!! 😞 1
red750 Posted September 15 Posted September 15 Some people show their age as they get older. Henry Winkler (Fonzie) and Ron Howard (Richie) Some don't. Scott Baio (Chachi) 1 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted September 15 Posted September 15 That is true; though it is possible that there could be a touch of makeup, photoshop or both. But, to be fairto Scott Baio, if youy look after yourself, there's little reason you won't age well. My My, doesn't Henry Winkler look a little like a smurf in the older shot... 😉 1

onetrack Posted September 15 Posted September 15 I think the Fonz and Ron Howard look pretty good for their age - unlike a few other actors or actresses that are younger than them, and who show the ravages of alcohol and drugs.
red750 Posted September 18 Posted September 18 This is worrying... https://www.facebook.com/reel/1262511565175795
onetrack Posted September 18 Posted September 18 I'm with Jerry on this one. It has Fake written all over it.
old man emu Posted September 18 Posted September 18 The video is not fake. What it purports to display is fake. But you've got to applaud the cinematography. 1
red750 Posted September 21 Posted September 21 My son just bought himself a near-new car. It is a Mazda Black Edition CX-60 with s six cylinder inline deisel engine and a hybrid electic motor to restart the engine after it stops at traffic lights and jams.It ha switches and electronics for everything you can imagine. I think the only thing it doesn't do is wipe his posterior. It is automatic, but you can switch to manual, using paddles on the steering wheel like an F1 car. It was reportedly owned by a Mazda executive and only has 7,700 km on the clock. Selectable driving modes are- offroad, normal onroad, sport and towingf, as he had a towbar fitted. He also got front and rear cameras with parking lot detection if you get bumped, tinted windows, heated and cooled seats front and rear, automatic wipers, speed sign detection (adjusts speed to the signed speed limit and more. He said the quote for a new one similarly equipped was over $100,000. 1
onetrack Posted September 22 Posted September 22 I can't see myself buying a hybrid any time soon, they look like twice the complexity and twice the problems as they age. I'll wait for the swappable solid state battery EV's. 1 3
red750 Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Not my choice, but he's 50, so his decision. I reckon flying the Bonanza was simpler. Meanwhile I see that MG prices have been reduced by around $10,000 till the end of October, making them the cheapest EV's in Australia. MG price reduction 1 2
