facthunter Posted January 29 Posted January 29 THEY Predeceased them by a Loooong time. The Point with the Astra is the "extensive" use of downloads to keep them going properly. Nev 1
facthunter Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Make SURE the Timing belt has been replaced. A MUST.DO item Nev
onetrack Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Cooling system neglect will take most modern cars out of action faster than anything, it's reported that more than two thirds of breakdowns are cooling system related. Cars that haven't been driven much, generally have the most neglected cooling systems. But yes, the Astra timing belts were weak, and need early replacement. 1
red750 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Here's a random thought. What a different sort of night. I was sitting in the family room watching the Sri Lanka test and reading Facebook and the forums. At about 8:40, total darkness - a power blackout. It had been 34 deg today and was still quite hot.I had a fan on and it died of course. Emergency action. I have a couple of small LED torches, about 10 cm long, powered by 2AA batteries and a lens about 2.5 cm diameter. I placed it to shine down the neck of a bottle of water which diffused the light so we could move about without bumping into things, and for brighter light, had the torch on my iPhone, which fortunately had been fully charged earlier this afternoon, The Wi-Fi went out with the lighhts, so no TV or computer. So I just laid on the bed feeling stinking hot. The power supply company (not the billing supplier) texted to say they were aware of the outage and said it should be back by 2 am. In fact, it came back on at 10:50, just before my daughter got home from the women's cricket test at the MCG. 1
facthunter Posted February 2 Posted February 2 That's how it usually works. Often a tree branch or something. I usually phone right when it happens to find out How long I might have to wait. Nev 1
onetrack Posted February 2 Posted February 2 We have a website we can access when the power goes down, just to see how long it will be before the power is put back on. Few people in positions of power see the irony in having a website relying on electrical power advising you when the loss of power will be restored. 😄 1
nomadpete Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Random thought just for our mate Spacey.... This is proof that the brits had ten hour days and metric clocks in their aircraft back in the 1940's. 2
facthunter Posted February 2 Posted February 2 When it goes Backwards you don't have much time, and you have to allow time for the Mountains. Nev 2

pmccarthy Posted February 2 Posted February 2 My 5 YO granddaughter had her first day at school this week. I was going to tell her about my first day at school. Then I did some quick mental arithmetic. If my grandpa had been my age on my first day of school, he would have been telling me about him starting school in the year 1890. So I shut up. 4
onetrack Posted February 2 Posted February 2 The first day of school, I got given a packet of Arnotts Milk Arrowroot biscuits to eat, by my Mum, and I'm pretty sure I cried almost all day long, as I had to spend the WHOLE DAY without her, which left me with life-long trauma. 😞 I reckon my Grandpa would've started school in 1845, as he was born in 1840. But I never got to meet him, because he died in 1923. 1 1

red750 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Another random thought - for our Taswegian friends this time... https://au.yahoo.com/news/concern-over-filthy-problem-at-popular-lakeside-park-careful-where-you-walk-225726640.html
red750 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Must have had a bad night last night. In bed just after midnight, the step counter on my watch read 00000. Woke up this morning and it read 00174. And with appliances I wear, I can't sleepwalk. 1
