red750 Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Bloody NBN went down at about 7 pm tonight. All our TV is through Foxtel via NBN so no TV. With atmospheric disturbance, free to air via antenna breaks up badly, unwatchable. I am on here via the personal hotspot on my phone. 1

Try losing it for 2 weeks and 2 days, like we did a month or so back. On school holidays. With 3 teenagers. 1
onetrack Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Our internet provider, TPG, apparently had some "connection issues" today. Didn't affect me greatly, but there was a time just before lunch when I was online, when webpages were a little slow to connect for a few minutes. I went out for a few hours to do some jobs, and everything was working fine when I came back.
red750 Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Our ISP is also TPG. It's my daughters account. She went on their website via an optus mobile wifi she has, and they reported that it was the severe storm in Sydney that put their system out. 1
red750 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Well that was a surprise. I had an appointment with my cardiologist this morning (or rather this afternoon after spending 3/4 of an hour in the waiting room). I thought it wa a regular reading of data stored in the pacemaker, but after the reading he said "You'll have to have a procedure. One of the wires is loose. Get a blood test and we will let you know when the booking has been made in the hospital, probably Friday." 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Blimey.. Best of luck.. hope it wasn't the restless night's sleep that dislodged it 1 1
old man emu Posted February 11 Posted February 11 For those who want to pilot: CASA is so strict with its medical standards that if you have a pimple on your bum, your licence could be suspended, or if you have something a bit more serious, CASA will cancel your licence. Back in the 70's, I was trying my hand a selling life assurance. You could get the assurance without a medical. Think of the level of risk of dying that the actuaries considered when setting the premium. Of course the amount of premium related to the age of the insured, but the risk was taken on. No doubt the actuaries for the assurance company had more of an idea of the risk of death amongst the population. 2
spacesailor Posted February 11 Posted February 11 My TPG / nbn has never made one month without an outage . We never get recompense for missing days . Optus gave credit for downtime which was two or three time a year . spacesailor 1
pmccarthy Posted February 14 Posted February 14 I just got a message from the Victorian Government asking me to register for Mylandtax. I deleted it. I will wait until they send me a bill and then I will pay it. I think they want me to do their admin for them. 1
red750 Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Got my schedule for the hospital visit to fix my pacemaker problem. Check-in at 10:30 am next Friday, overnight stay, and no driving for two weeks. 1
facthunter Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Enjoy the experience. You have NO choice. Be good. Nev 1 1
pmccarthy Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I was just listening to the local radio. They said the bloke who wrote "summer of 69" was challenged as he was only 9 years old in 1969. He answered that "I never said it was about the year 69!" 1
onetrack Posted February 16 Posted February 16 So, when he wrote the song, he was writing about enjoying 69 every Summer? 😄
facthunter Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Tell them it's a French idea and they will lose the taste for it. Nev 1
Jerry_Atrick Posted Monday at 08:37 AM Posted Monday at 08:37 AM Well, they do like the Vichyssoise, I guess.
Litespeed Posted Monday at 08:53 AM Posted Monday at 08:53 AM Trouble is they would never spell it, they would change it to Victory swill.
red750 Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I'm back....Did you miss me? The pacemaker procedure was set for today as I suggested above. But the best laid plans..... Last Sunday, I felt a bit crook, and was off my food. I also had terrible shaking, like Parkinson's Disease. I was carrying a glass of water and almost sloshed it over the place with the shakes. I only ate half the dinner my daughter served, and I said "I'll have the rest for lunch at the Shed." But I didn't go to the shed, was collapsed on the bed in the heat. Didn't have lunch either. Monday dinner was the same, could only eat half. Tuesday was no better, so my daughter said "Make an appointment with the doctor". Getting ready for the doctor, I tipped forward in the bedroom, overbalanced and fell face first onto the bed. I was like a turtle on its back - couldn't move. My daughter had to drag me by the arm to get upright, then help me to my feet. I eventually got to see the doctor, and after a couple of checks, said' "I'll call an ambulance to take you to hospital. You have a bad infection." So here it is, Tuesday night, and I'm in ER at the hospital. An X-ray and further tests, and I was admitted to a ward, where I have been ever since, having IV antibiotics. I went onto the fasting in preparation for the procedure. About 10:30, the pathologist came and took a blood sample, and a short while after, the cardiologists analyst came in to say the procedure was deferred, fasting cancelled. "The doctor will come in and see you later to explain". About 7:30 pm., the doctor arrives, and says "You will have to stay here on antibiotics, hopefully we can perform the procedure on Wednesday." I asked the problem, and he said, "Urinary infection. No work associated with the heart till that is cleared up." Ah.... The joys of living. Oh, shortly after the doctor left, my son dropped by to bring me the laptop. 1
